• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Sewing cabinet

It was a cropped photo I took from my wife's website as it looks tidy! Here's the lot in all its messy glory! The cabinets were my first proper project about 18-19 years ago, but for a different house. The fit in this room is pure coincidence!

    Sewing cabinet

I watched a QU & A with Patrick from the Sewing Bee once - he does some interesting stuff outside of the programme as well. He did say that apparently if there is a challenge and everyone is struggling they do give them more time. I guess it wouldn't make good telly if no one had finished! I...

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Just to prove I do actually do some woodwork - here’s a photo of a batch of Christmas presents. Hastily made after a month or so of illness I made 4 sets which were completed just as they were gifted which for one set was the 27th! Didn’t take any photos of them before giving so this set which...

    Benchdogs great customer service

Wanted to share some good customer service, seems to happen less and less often! At the weekend, I made an error: bevel cut with my track saw straight through the underail piece on my tracksaw fence. Still works but looked bad and gave a little less chip out prevention. Unfortunately on their...

    Knuckle-dragging oxygen-stealers strike again.

I’ve felt a bit uncomfortable about the coverage of this, everyone is commenting and sharing it on various platforms. It’s really sad and I understand why people feel a connection and it invokes so much emotion. Just wish there was the same amout of indignation for treatment of nature as a...

    Processing large pieces of wood

I've scored a rather enormous haul of iroko and sapele on Facebook. To be honest I misjudged the size of the pieces in the photos and there weren't any measurements so I now have a huge pile of wood to store somewhere  I've not processed anything very large before and there's one board...

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Not done a lot of woodworking recently, bathroom has taken what spare time I had! However, I have kept up a bit of green woodworking, the odd spoon and spatula here and there. Here are a selection from recently, in order of production. Middle one was made at the Bodgers Ball on a course and...

    Le Tour. Anyone else watching?

I prefer off road cycling, follow keely and actually had to pay for sport TV for the first time ever as the UCI XC and DH has gone to Eurosport / GCN. Seeing the cracked carbon, how about this photo from the weekends racing Check out this link for the original and a photo of the aftermath...

    Unusual Plane handle

It’s off, pretty certain that as Andy said it’s homemade, looks fairy rough underneath. Hadn’t realised how weighty that block of wood was until it was off - and I did use it for a while with the lump and although initially comfortable I’m used the round knobs so found the square limiting on...

    Unusual Plane handle

First up I’ll be honest I’m only asking to get info to help with listing this on eBay! Hope that’s OK. Funds are tight and I need to sell some stuff to keep funding the woodworking. Don’t worry though I have a 5 1/2 already that I’ve tuned and like, it’s a plastic handled one but feels right as...

    Portable tool box

Picked this up over the weekend, bought from Facebook. Have a really good toolbox of general tools which when I’m doing DIY away from the home has most things I need. When it comes to wood projects I’m always grabbing stuff and putting it in bags or straight in the car! So saw this and...

    Render repairs

Planning my Easter weekend jobs! Our house has a section of render, in poor condition in places. I think it’s been over coated at some point instead of removed and redone. There are also old repairs next to door etc which have given up. Finally after fitting a new cupboard door and porch some...

    Cabin beds

Thought I should bring this up to date, as expected nothing more happened last year, and in fact early January was busy with work and so very little workshop time. However after a couple of 3 day weekends I'm nearly there! I took on board the feedback and made some mods to the top, it...

    Kings of the wood

Fancy shouting at the telly again now Britain's best woodworker is finished? Kings of the wood is on Discovery+, put into it by my brother, it’s a bit like the programme with Jay Blades where they make projects for special people, it’s by the producers of Repair Shop. Watching first episode...

    Direct from farmer oranges

I know we have some foodies here, anyone used this site? https://www.crowdfarming.com/en Just came across it with an add for oranges. Prices seem to vary but I’m tempted to try an orange box around £20. We eat pretty much only seasonal fruit and veg and you can’t beat the local Kent soft...

    Spoons

Nice spoons. Was the apple seasoned, I tried that once it was so hard I gave up! These are my recent spoon / cooking implement makes

    Chimney sweep?

I know I’ll get some sensible opinions here, how often do you get your chimney, or should I say flue swept? We have a wood burner, been in 4 years and it has just had its second sweep. The post about DIY and paying for services made me think about this. When we bought the stove and all the...

    Cabin beds

I’ve been fitting in the odd bit of time here and there but haven’t posted an update for a while. The first unit glued together without a hitch and I moved to the car half of the garage to be finished This meant I could start on the other end unit, I had a day off a couple of weeks ago and...

    Paul Sellers router plane

I'm sure he probably divides opinion but I like Paul Sellers approach and teaching style, this has been released today. A series on building a router plane - seems like a great idea for anyone who doesn't have one given the crazy prices now woodworking seems to be getting popular...

    Black marks on oak

My brother is after some remedial woodwork from me after leaving a wet keg on his oak table  It has reacted and left a black ring. I've not used it but am I right in thinking the best approach would be oxalic acid? Would you try sanding first? I imagine the stain will be fairly deep...
