• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I want to stock up on abranet, sheets and discs for my ROS.
Anyone know of a decent outlet? I’m aware that there are loads of places that sell it, but wanted to make my dosh go as far as possible.
There seems to be lots of near identical stuff these days, is it any good?

I think you have to just try it and see. I've used some of the no brand mesh discs on my Deros but found that the Mirka product lasted longer and equally importantly stuck to the pad savers much better. I just stick to Mirka Abranet now but I don't go through tons of it.

Sorry I can't help here as I have not used this type of sanding material before is it really that good?

It’s brilliant….it doesn’t clog up or wear away like big-standard sandpaper. But does need suction.

You can get a very basic handheld unit with a hose and adapter that goes into a vacuum cleaner. The pad is porous as are the sanding sheets. This was the first one that I got. They're not that expensive but I'm not using mine at the moment and can lend it to you with a few sheets to see how you get on.

The next one I got was a ROS ...similar principle re extraction etc. Then, after seeing my decorator use one, got a smaller rectangular one.

I’ve just noticed the multitude of abranets available.
Classic Abranet
Abranet Ace
Abranet Ace Hd
Abranet NC
And Abranet SIC for glass

The classic has worked fine for me on the lathe and with the hand held pad with hose was excellent indoors on newly plastered walls.
Never bothered with look-a-likes for the amount I use not worth the risk of having to buy twice.

I used to go through quite a bit when doing machine restos and like adrian says you can get stuff that looks very similar abit cheaper, I soon realized branded stuff is far superior and scrimping was a false economy. I used to keep a box of 120grit going upto 500 for polishing. I used my old dyson dco1 which is still going strong after 10years of shed use.

Thank you for the information Roger I have a rotary sander etc but not tried abranet sheets hence why I ask and from what you have said I should be looking into trying them. I'm still on my daughters kitchen at the moment and will only be using hand power for sanding on that when I get to it but the Abrant sheets sound like something I've been missing out on. Cheers for the kind offer and info, regards Mark.

I saw an interesting YouTube a while back by Jonathan Katz Moses where he appeared to do a relatively scientific test of “sand paper”. The best he found was 3M cubitron mesh which was better than Abranet if I remember rightly. I’ll see if I can find a link to it.

Abranet is great for large flat surfaces in a sander with suction; it's completely and utterly useless for detail sanding - Rob
