• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Amazing Moon

The only thing I like about Winter is when there is a full Moon you don't need a flashlight/torch to get around, it is quite stunning. That is the light from the sun reflecting of the moons surface to a white covering of snow. Waking up to -30 C the past morning just sends chills through my body.

Brrrr. I've just arrived in the alps and it's only forecast to be -4C today. Although we drove up in the dark (terrifying ride in a taxi which included a coming together with another car!) so couldn't see very much, there does seem to be a lot of snow!

Same moon the other side of the pond. The snow certainly makes a beautiful photo, but you can keep it

Send some of the warmer weather over here.
The roads must be very narrow due to snowbanks either side?

Rather odd for Boston , you wait when it comes it is usually a big dump.
Warmer this morning -13 C.
Any temp below -20 C I consider cold for me, that's when the hairs in your nostrils freeze.

I've just driven home for about an hour with a clear sky and the moonin my face for much of the way. When it was low in the sky it looked enormous. At the moment it is rather higher and looks more "normal". I should have stopped to takke a picture.
When I was a kid I loved astronomy. I built a telescope out of a cardboard tube from inside a carpet,, a plastic pipe from a sink waste and a couple of lenses from CHarles Frank in Glasgow. 7/6d including postage. That was 15 weeks' pocket money. I didn't have a tripod, so I poked it through the garden trellis. I could see everything E-W...
I remember I drew a map of the moon, I wish I still had it.

Seems as if you really enjoyed building the telescope Steve.
I know what you mean by a big moon, our dogs have been acting strange the last few days.
