An odd picture

We've not had a photo thread for a while and I recently took this and thought it weird enough to be perhaps worth showing:



The overall effect is a series of demented pyramids. I wouldn't want to look at it while suffering from a hangover but I do keep coming back to it.

Any thoughts? (If you hate it, feel free to say so as ego is not a factor in this but I would be interested in why you hate it.) It's worth clicking on to enlarge it and get the effect.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw the building!

It was first thing in the morning and I remembering muttering to myself, "What on earth is going on here?"
The only thing I did with the picture, apart from bumping up the contrast a bit, was to crop out all surrounding things which were clearly part of reality, so although it's definitely not an abstract, it seems to me that one's initial reaction could be that it might just be that.

Yes I like the quilted effect, not sure how the triangles appear though, I saw a similar thing with a square faceted blue glass office block the other day, very eye catching.

I took this for a similar reason Andy. the sum of the actual was boring but in abstract it had something about it.

Yes, I get that and like the pic. It instantly occurred to me that if you were to rotate it 90° so that the current top became the left hand side, you would have a real puzzler on your hands.

It's an interesting photo. There's not enough information in it to deduce what we are looking at - reflections? Coloured triangles? Actual pyramids?

Do you have a wider photo showing the whole building, or a link to a Streetview image?

Here you go, Andy. This is the pic which shows the building in its surroundings. I presume that the reflective cladding is arranged in triangles which are each a few degrees off vertical. The building is opposite the south entrance to Berlin main station.
