• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Will do Steve. I expect at least some of us will be eating. I does not seem fair to subject Kirk to my cooking :lol:
Timing is an unknown at the moment and depends on when Kirk arrives in Romsey.
I will endeavour to keep everyone up to date via this thread.

Guys, I'm on the train heading south toward London. I'm looking forward to seeing you all in a few days. The weather has been fabulous, scattered clouds every day and enough sun to keep warm. Toured Lancaster Castle/Prison this morning. Interesting, but it only whetted my appetite.

I'm thinking of going to the Ship in Redbridge just to the west of Southampton and easily reached from the M27/271. It is an old world pub dating from 1650s and does good food as sensible prices.

Well guys, the rain in London this morning didn't melt me, and I'm down here at Bob's place having had dinner and the full shop tour including the magically disappearing planer--er, thicknesser. :). Bob and I are going to see ships in Portsmouth tomorrow and then head back for the meetup. See you tomorrow evening.

Just back from a very pleasant evening with Kirk, Bob, Rob, Terry and Steve.
Kirk even liked our "warm" beer - Wadsworth 6X and Ringwood 49er (4.9%) I think?

Thanks to everyone who made it last night. I had a great time meeting you all. I suppose we could have only talked about woodworking, but nobody seemed too disturbed when the conversation went far afield. Now I know what many of you look like, and you can avoid me on the street if guppy like. :)

Kempton is good. I'm not really into that sort of thing but went there awhile back with the kids at Christmas. They have a small train running and Santa was on it. Anyway the actual museum has some huge machinery. 10 minutes from where I live .

In London I spent a day each at the British Museum and the V&A,and a few hours at the Imperial
War Museum. Part of my time was visiting friends, so that drove some of the schedule. Yesterday was Portsmouth all day, and Bob and I still didn't see several major exhibits. So maybe I need to come back. :)

By the way, the whole Portsmouth museum complex seemed obsessed with two things--Nelson/Victory/Trafalgar (understandable), and Gallipoli. I didn't get the latter. Yes, it was a botched operation and a tremendously costly defeat, but it seemed way over emphasized. Virtually nothing on WWII, at least where we were.

I suppose it's down to lack of space and we have a long maritime history - there's a few WWII warships dotted around the country.
We have an Aircraft carrier up for sale at the moment which is hoped will go to some historic institution otherwise it will be scrapped.
Cannot really understand why there's a big feature on Gallipoli - unless it's it's anniversary also Australia and New Zealand were heavily involved?
Jutland was another famous WWI naval battle - both sides claimed victory but it resulted in the German Navy confined to their home ports.

Dear all - whilst we were swilling booze on Thursday evening , my broadband went off and Virgin were sending a man round on Monday , however its back on , so just wanted to say how much I enjoyed meeting up with everybody at the Ship Inn , I hope Kirk has a good ( remaining ) holiday , and perhaps other such meets could happen in the future .
