• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Does anybody know how to re-boot a Kindle ?

My wife's Kindle is playing up big time . The trouble started when she ordered 2 new books which didn't show up and after waiting weeks we decided it was the Kindle which was at fault . We have asked Amazon via the forum they provide but have received no help as yet . We ordered a new battery and special tools from USA , now fitted but no result . We are not sure if the thing is completely dead or just comatose - the screen is showing a picture of the battery with the plug and lightning streak and the battery picture shows a thin line at the bottom. Have tried to recharge a dozen times from either the charger or with the USB cable plugged into the computer , the orange light is on but we don't get a green and the battery picture never changes , on the Amazon forum they talk about holding down the start button for 30 seconds to re-boot but nothing happens . If anybody has an idea how to release it from its comas , or to re-boot it would be appreciated as wifey doesn't want to lose the books paid for and as yet unread .

Hard to imagine removing the battery would not cause a reboot.

I have a kindle but read freely available non DRM books so have never purchased any. Don't you have an amazon (or wherever) account showing your purchases and allowing you to re-download them if you need to buy a new reader?

A quick search shows there are a number of ways to reboot a kindle and also there is the possibility that it is dead. What model kindle is it in case someone want to search more?

Edit.. a quick google search suggests removing the battery is a fix and causes a restart but people are leaving it with no battery for an hour before replacing it. Did you do a quick swap?
 
Re-boot is achieved by holding the on/ off button in for (I think) 15 seconds.
 
Robert and Mike G - thanks for those comments .there are various sites explaining how to re boot etc , ranging from 20 to 40 seconds , but the Amazon Techs themselves have not yet replied . However it no longer matters . basically in order to change the battery we had to carefully prise the back off which is awkward as its stuck in with double-sided goo . Today I removed the back for the third time , and noticed that just where I needed to lift the edge halfway along the side of the back to pop it off , there is a bit of printed circuitry right on the edge just waiting to get busted with the little plastic lever provided , so basically its now bu==ered . Her Indoors says she will save up for a new one .

If I rebooted a Kindle I could probably get it to the end of the garden! !

2 possible options...

House contents insurance claim.... and/or list it exactly as it is and sell it on ebay. Amazing what broken stuff sells for sometimes.
