The cynic in me says that it's listed at $110 starting bid, when the same hammer with one normal handle wouldn't fetch a tenth of that. Don't discount the possibility that it's purely done to make it unusual.

You do occasionally see double handled sledge hammers (with 2 sockets) which I think may have been used in ship making. Never seen a claw hammer like that and I doubt it is vintage either. Very unique is an interesting phrase. It's either unique or it isn't.

The handles are so thin at the entry point one or both would break. It's a dumb chancer trying his or her luck.

I agree that it's a Ccc hammer head with someone's idea of a joke.

As Adrian said, double handled sledge hammers do exist. They were for really heavy work where the strength of two strong men was needed. Somewhere there's a great bit of 1900s archive film from the black country showing a ship's anchor being forged by hand, which includes shots of one in use. I'll see if I can find it.
