• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Driving hire car after 20 hr day

A Kia Sedona 3.2l automatic. Comfortable, spacious enough for 5 with all our luggage and a wheelchair.
Collected from Newark airport after an hour waiting in queue. Easy enough to understand the basics so set the sat nav and less than an hour later arrived at hotel.

Checked in and left the family to empty the car. Went back to lock it then checked boot (trunk), it opened, eh? Locked again, heard the clunk, checked boot again, it opened.
Oh it was also 93f in the shade, car was in full sun.
Locked again checked passenger door, locked. Checked driver's door, it opened. Now pissed off, very hot and dog tired. Tried half a dozen combinations of closing doors, boot etc in varying order. Sweat pouring off me. Boot and driver's door refused to lock. Gave up, had a cup of tea. Was able to see car from air conditioned room.

Tried again, same outcome.

Read manual.

Blooody key fob had a proximity sensor. :twisted: :oops:

Biggest problem I've had in the States, Florida was finding the air conditioning controls as the car completely steamed up with the humidity as soon as we got on the high speed toll roads.
That and my sat nav taking 12hrs to realise we weren't in the UK!!
Worst experience was pulling up at an attended gas station near Death Valley, where the assistant insisted he checked the oil etc and charged me $76 (which included the gas) for the privilege - when I complained and pointed out it was a hire car he said I would be refunded by the hire Co. - no way as I found out when returning the car. [emoji53]

My car has keyless entry. If the key is with you the front doors and boot will open if the handle is touched. You can only do the pull to see if it's locked on the rear doors. You can on the front too but only for 10 seconds after locking.

The door mirrors are set to auto fold in when locked so now I just look at the door mirrors to check.
 
That wireless hacking has been around for years.

That's what insurance is for. I'll not lose any sleep over it.
