• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Forum software discussion

...size the image...

Just picking up on one thing because I’ve seen mention by a couple of people, you do know that there’s no need to resize pics for this forum don’t you?

I spent hours sorting the software and adding a module that does the auto-resizing for you and I know it works because I uploaded a 30MB+ picture that was too big to show on my 27” iMac screen and the software sized it down to fit on the screen without scrolling and down to less than 1MB.

I know that was just one element of what you wrote, and I agree with much, especially that the picture uploading could be slicker, but I wanted to make sure that people weren’t wasting time sizing their pics before uploading because that would definitely cause frustration.

I resize my photos for the sake of my own photo storage, and the upload time to Imgur......but yep, that was a useful reminder, Mark.

Thanks Mark. I was aware, but in my case most pictures have to be converted from CRM. Apologies - was not trying to mislead.

Malcolm, you selectively quoted me. The beginning of the sentence you selected from started "Many people....". That was my attempt to avoid over generalising.

This is based on experience of transitioning another forum which had some very quiet periods because people (or so they said) were, among other things, struggling with picture uploads. (In fact there was another problem as well, which was a moderator who imposed his stringent Christian views on what people said). We found that the lack of activity (zero posts some days) caused many members not to bother checking the forum very often and not contributing. That forum needed activity to create a club feel.

However, I completely agree that different people and even different age groups look for different things, and respect your viewpoint.

Can I add that those with slow broadband may well want to resize their images before uploading even if the forum software does do this for them.

We are not all on fibre, yet. It has been strung up on the telegraph poles around here. The chap doing this said it will be another couple of months before house connections start.

Came back to this thread from the one Bucks Dad just started. Did your internet improve Andy? In our lane we still don't have fibre to the house, or even to the nearest pole, despite promises for two years. Hence, image upload is a nuisance. Although in Kent we are only about 20 miles from London and still have almost third world internet :?

Promises? Bloody luxury!

All we've been told about fibre-to-premises is that it's "not currently planned".

No. fibre still not installed Due to the existing copper cable being stuck. Due to a blockage under the road a quick “pull the fibre through the same conduit” installation cannot be done. Nobody will take responsibility to dig the road up. It will be a legal obligation for all households to have fibre here, I think by 2025, so we wait.

With the existing copper we can streak video without issue so we have given up chasing the relevant parties all of which a very adept at the Gaelic shrug.
