• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Evening all

I suppose this could come under carving if we had a carving board, but not strictly (or even remotely) wood.

I've had two days off with the kids for half term so this is what we got up to today…

We started with these…


Sketched out an outline and started carving using a combination of stanley knife, small Global knife and cheapo wood carving tools I got from Clas Olsson. On this side I only went about 3-4mm deep with the carving then used a spoon to scrape the inside until the light shines through as I wanted…



Sketch out the other side and start the traditional carving

Then here we are with Barney's finished













Thern we start with Tilly's. She picked a nice easy one for Daddy… :shock:









That's me all pumpkin carved out for another year.

Wow indeed. I'd better not show my kids yours or they will get ideas beyond my abilities.

Unfortuneatly the pumpkin we had been growing all summer was found to be totally rotten underneath. First time this has happened so for the first time I will have to buy one.

Bl**dy hell Mark, I've never seen pumpkins carved like that before - very impressive indeed!

I think you should now be known as the 'Chief of the Pumpkin Carver Brigade' 8-)
 
Those are super, Mark. How did you do the Darth Vader?

Love the teeth on your daughter's..which reminds me...dentist soon!

Darth Vader one was done by sketching the outline on the pumpkin then going round all the lines with a thin pointed scalpel blade to a dept of about 3-4mm. Then I used a combination of a narrow carving gouge and an old sharpened flat blade screwdriver to take the skin out to around the same 3-4mm depth.

Smooth the bottom of the channels out then clean out the insides. Next I spent 10 mins using a torch and spoon to scrape away at the flesh inside until enough light shone through the remaining flesh to give that effect.

Teeth were just drawn, cut out and shaped to various depths to give the gums and teeth then modelled them with various blades to finalise the shapes.

Pretty easy really once you start. All in all took me about 4 hours in total to finish the m both.
