• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Happy Ending

No, not that sort of Happy Ending

Delighted to have moved away from the three Evil Beasties (aka midges, biblical swarms of black files round eyes and ears and clegs). But nature abhors a vacuum so enter the Somerset equivalent aka small wasps.

LOML and I are thoroughly enjoying being able to eat outside in the evenings underneath the cerulean blue sky.

Until a wee wasp comes along and starts to eat my supper but I'm getting very good at fast reactions, a knife and bisecting it.

But before then, I will have sat down with a good book - just finished Gabriel's Moon by William Boyd and a superb book. Washed down with a glass of shandy. Perforce a 'friend' will come along and decide to share the shandy. To end matters swiftly I have always to hand a cover for the glass. Wait until the wasp is in the glass, cover over the top, quick shake and give the wasp a drink. Let it enjoy the moment, flick of the knife and a swift coup de grace. Happy Ending for both.

Get yourself an electric (battery) insect killer bat/raquet Roger. brilliant things I've had one for many years now and the only drawback is the smell of incinerating insect flesh isn't great.

If there are any midges or mozzies aroung and you wave it around you get a fireworks display. :ROFLMAO:

Had one for a few years; great fun to use; proper 'zap!' on a fly when the bat's got a decent charge - Rob

Roger, as a biologist, I have to wonder what precise irritant the dying Hymenopteran voids into your shandy? You don't subsequently imbibe this elixir, do you?
Its just that I recall you discussing earnestly recently, the pros and cons of various prescription drugs and it occurs to me to wonder if hornets' venom (with a remarkably high acetycholine content of 5%) would not be an opposing interaction and render your dosage null and void?

P.S. the other leg has bells on..😎

Agreed the bug racket works great on flies, mosquitos and other small flying bugs but wasps just get really really mad and try to get even. 🐝
