• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Http proxy settings iPad air

I am in the UK for a few days helping my father sort out some issues not least of which is a very slow iPad. Safari was timing out and emails taken hours to send.

I compared the settings on my iPod to his iPad and discovered that the HTTP Proxy setting on the ipad was set to AUTO . My iPod is set to OFF. Having set the iPad to OFF everything is now working very fast.

Can anyone explain what is going on?

Any help?

I sometimes use a proxy server if I want to hide my own IP address. But now I use the TOR browser I don't need to bother !!
 
Default is set to off so he's been tinkering... :)

Not sure why it should have slowed things though as it should have just detected no proxy and carried on direct.

Kind of understand that Roger thanks. If it were me I would not even think about what, why, how but my old man wants to understand a bit too much.

It is possible that the setting was changed by accident but it seems that sometimes he has been able to browse the web with no issues at all so I am still not entirely sure what the auto setting is doing.

Anyway all seems to be working now and he knows where to go I things start to slow up again in the future.
