Some of you may of noticed that I had not been around for a bit, I have been well but the LOML has has quite a bad time of it.
She has had some problems with her knees, one of which last year was Xrayed at the local health centre, the expert there said she had arthritis and was prescribed a tube of Ibuprofen cream to ease the pain. That did work for a while but recently both knees became very pain full. So bad that even turning over in bed hurt, walking was very difficult and standing up from a seated position was a challenge that needed my help.
At this point I insisted that a visit to the GP was in order. A comment that the year old Xray did not show any arthritis and a blood test form was the outcome of the visit, but due to the shortage of supplies it took a fortnight to get it done. The results were inconclusive! The pain persisted.
I managed to get another appointment with a different GP, the one I had had seen in the pasted and had more confidence in. He was surprised at how bad her walking was and examined both knees. He then prescribed a course of steroids and sent a referral to the rheumatoid department at the local hospital. The effect was magic. The next day walking was easier, the pain in bed had gone, in 3 days standing was no longer a issue.
However the pain returned as the course of steroids wound down. Another call to the GP resulted in more steroids and another push at the hospital.
This week I took LOML to the hospital, the consultant examined her legs, asked loads of questions and then said she had a plan of action. She took a sample of fluid out of the left knee and injected steroids directly into the joint. The sample has been sent for analysis. Xrays of both knees were then taken. A follow up appointment booked for next year with a comment to call if there are any problems or if the treatment is successful for the right knee to be injected as well.
While the pain has not gone completely, LOML is now able to stand, climb the stairs and put her own shoes on unaided.
Life is beginning to return to something like normal, I am very please as this whole episode frightened the life out of me and many things I would normal do got forgotten.
I see that you lot have been busy and I will have to spend some time reading the posts that have been made while I was other wise occupied.
A note for Roger, I have made some new finals for you and will be posting then very soon, sorry for the delay.
