I hate IMAP email accounts. You simply don't 'own' the emails. You might have them listed in your email program but those are only pointers as far as I can see to them sitting on the server elsewhere. I had a mental aberration last night. I made my periodic look at the raw logs for my website to see if there were any hacking attempts or if the bandwidth was 'normal'...remember Apple Mail threw a wobbler some time back and consumed a colossal amount of data in a day....I noticed that my hard drive had 16MB of 50MB available used up. Most of it was in my email inbox and sent folders. I've got those on the Mac, I thought. I'll delete the lot.
I went back to the Mac, opened up the Sent folder on my website and yes there they were ...for a microsecond before the IMAP updated that list and '''poof''' they were gone. All of them. My backups will not be of any use, of course. So I need some form of archiving of IMAP stuff. Any suggestions ?
