• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Yesterday I was talking to a neighbour through my car window. Sideways, as you do. Blink. Opps, my contac lens moved. No problem, I went back home, retrieved it, reinstalled it and all was well.

Today it fell out, we found it, I put it back in and then - gone. Nowhere to be seen. It was there, and then it wasn't. I've had it two weeks, brand new, very expensive, these are not off-the-shelf bits of plastic.

So now I'm back to wearing my spare again.

Bah humbug.

I’m sure you’re not at all daft enough to do this, an American woman was found to have 14? disposable ones in one eye, I don’t know how it’s even possible.
Hasn’t slipped round the back has it Steve? Doesn’t seem like they are a good fit to your eye, says he not knowing much about it at all.

Seem to recall you having this problem before, Steve ? Superglue ? :eusa-whistle:
 
Indded. This was the replacement for the one I lost a few months back. It was modified to fit better (the fit is always a compromise because of the very wonky shape of my corneas). But it's been great - until now. And I bet the manufacturer is closed until next week :(

I've lost count of the times I've been asked at the opticians "Have you considered contact lenses", when I explain my line of work they usually turn around and say "Ah, best to stick with what you've got then" which are large lensed spectacles which kind of do double duty as safety glasses, I've lost track of how many times chips of wood or otherwise has pinged off the lenses that would've gone straight in the eye.

I know a lot of people swear by contacts, but I've never been a fan of the idea of voluntarily poking myself in the eye.
 
I started wearing disposable contacts about a year ago and wouldn't be without them now, I never realised how many people do wear them. Initially it seems a bit weird poking around in your eye but you soon get used to it.

I visited my optician a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me about one of his customers who came to him with an infected eye, it turned out he was wearing 2 lenses in one eye plus there were another 4 in there which had slipped up under his eyelid......

I was told I might have a problem with off the shelf contacts as my cornea are quite flat but they have been fine so far. On the odd occasion when I look sideways it can feel like it moves a bit but it's never fallen out yet.
 
I wish I could wear specs. The problem is with my corneas, so whatever a spectacle lens does an inch or two in front of my eye, the light still has to go through a knackered surface afterwards. With a contact lens, it puts a new optically correct surface on the front of my eye. Thats why I can go from 6/300 without a lens to 6/6 with one. It makes a huge difference.
I used to have some specs that made a little bit of difference, better than nothing, but since my op even they have become redundant.

I recall when I had my cataract surgery that they had the option ..which I accepted..to put in a corrective lens. I will never forget the sheer joy, when my wife drove me back, of gently lifting up the gauze pad and looking out to sharp images ...."I can see....I can see!!".
