Is there such a thing as a wood core drill ?

I've got some longish nails snapped off inside some very old oak and they need to come out. I was thinking something like a small diameter (smaller the better) core drill to go down around the nail then I'd hack out the remains to free the nail enough to be able to lever it out.

But I'm stuck finding one.

Diamond bit for tile cutting, or a plug cutter if the nail is not too long?

An engineers roll pin can have teeth ground on one end and be used in a power drill.I’ve used that method with success but I have seen reference to use of a stainless steel drinking straw used in a similar way.

The diamond drill will clog up, surely? Plug cutter...good idea but possibly not deep enough.

I have to Google engineers roll pin...they might do the trick.

I use hole saws often for wood The aarbor usually has a centre drill, but that is only held in with a grub screw. Start slow with the drill till its cut below the surface, then go for it.

Why not carefully drill some 4mm holes down the side of the nail to release it ?

Result!
