• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Is your grass still growing?

Ours is. A lot. I mowed last week but it was rather wet and I had to cut at max height. So today the head gardener made me do it again. It's grown since last week. Did the lawns and topped 8 acres of orchards. I don't recall ever seeing plants continue to put on growth at this rate so late in the season. We've got two cherry trees just come into blossom as well.

Afraid so. I misjudged what the weather was going to do and 'winterised' all the equipment. I knew it was growing but did nowt about it. So now it is going to be a nightmare come spring because we've gone all wet and muddy again.

Yep. I cut mine a couple of days ago. I've cut it in the week before christmas in the past.

In Kent not far from you Adrian. Mowed yesterday. Abelia, dahlia, salvia, and fuchsia all in full bloom. Supposed to be cold next week though.

Roger, I always mow when it’s wet up in the NW. Even when it’s dry, it’s wet. I wouldn’t be able to mow if I had to wait for the grass to be dry as well as the air.

Yep and it’s so damn wet with soft clay under that I can’t cut it without leaving rutted tramlines everywhere.

Sometimes I really mis my suburban lawn that took 20 mins to cut with a Ransomes 12”Ajax.

Our lawns grew by over 30mm in the last week, I set up a Husqvana robot mower at the beginning of the season it mows every day and the lawns look absolutely superb, I winterised it 2 Saturdays ago and now it’s back out cutting every 3rd day. I don’t think I could put the ride on or pedestrian mowers on the back lawn as it’s extremely soggy under foot, the robot is fairly light but it does drop crap from the wheels all over the driveway when it cuts the front lawns
As others have said we have a lot of stuff still blooming, the lobelia I planted back in May are absolutely massive, normally they would have been removed by now.

How flat does the lawn have to be for the robot? Can it deal with mole hills?

The back lawn is absolutely flat, I dug the old out and brought in 260 tons of top soil to level it, the front lawn is a little sloped, the mower does a perfect job, it traverses a slab path and a resin bound drive to get to the front lawns.
If your lawn is relatively smooth it will do inclines with no issue, If your considering one get a local company to do a demo for you.
Mole hills are not a problem, I’ve caught 2 moles in the last 6 weeks, I really couldn’t bring myself to photograph the damage they caused but it was quite bad, the robot sort of flattened them but it quickly wears the blades, the blades are very similar to old flat razor blades and are quite cheap and real easy to change.

My lawn has a long growing season. I mowed the middle of last December and again the first week in January this year. I stopped mowing after that until the middle of March. During the growing season, I mow two to three times a week.

Sounds like you’ve got ideal conditions for the robot. I might try to set up a demo like you suggest. “Lawn” would be too grand of a word for either of our grassed areas. They’re both sloped (one maybe 10 degrees and the other most if it is probably 55-60 degrees), but also they’ve had a lot of mole activity over the years and ongoing and while they look relatively smooth from a distance, they undulate quite a lot in addition to the overall slope.

We are currently cutting the grass and hoovering up leaves at the same time.
It’s a good mix to put on the compost heap.

Yeah, I need to get the Billy goat going again as most of the leaves have dropped this week. The tractor mower just mulches and shreds the leaves finely for the worms to take down. The Billy goat vacuums and shreds everywhere else, but it wouldn't start last time I tried it a few weeks ago. I detest Briggs & Stratton engines!

Our lawns are basically field grass liberally interspersed with daisies, flat stuff and some moss. Those of you who seek perfection would not be at all impressed but I don't have the time to maintain them any better as the garden is already way too big.

Stopped growing here but will cut one more time just to collect the decaying leaves, clippings and all go into the compost pile.

Just mowed this week here in Oregon, USA. Typical for here. Our grass usually stops growing about now, though, and I usually have to start again the last week of January or first week of February.

Cut ours this afternoon, in the midlands, got quite a lot off.

It's been dry and quite warm for the past week. The birds are showing signs of being frisky!
