• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I made two planes. The small one is a coopering plane. The larger one is described as a block plane but more like a small smoother. The mechanism on the larger one is a Veritas kit the small one is a Hock blade. I just need to finish them with some Rubbing varnish I made 40 years ago. Oak, I presume? I don't know what a coopering plane is, but presume it has some curves somewhere. Is it for a specific project?

The sole is curved as is the blade. So the blade has a 4” radius at 90 degrees but as the plane blade is set at 45 degrees I added 50% =6” curve on the sole and then tuned it to fit I would guess some where around 5 1/4” radius. I am sure I could have calculated it but preferred to plane it to the actual blade in situ.
Yes oak. I have lots of off cuts that are very dense so ideal.
 
Now finished, sharpened and tested. The Hock blade is excellent. The finish it leaves has an incredible sheen. Although I need to knock the corners off the blade as it leaves tram lines. IMG_0846.jpegIMG_0845.jpeg
 
They look great! I’ve heard nothing but good things about hock blades though i have yet to ise one. I almost bought the spokeshave lit once, but already have a few spokeshaves
 
Ron Hock is a nice bloke as well I met him when I went to America, His wife is also nice She was managing a book shop in Fort Bragg so we went in to say hi and look around, we had a nice chat and bumped into them at Cressing Temple a few years after and she recognised me.

I have a Hock blade to make a plane with must get on with it.

I made it a high angle plane which made the adjustment very tricky, the play in the cup that the adjuster sits in seems to be the worse part.
I need to get the metal lathe out of the shed and make one with a tighter fit.
