• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

It wasn't a heart attack.......

..........but I didn't find that out until about 5 hours after I got carted off in an ambulance on Sunday morning, wired up to an ECG. I was given a spray of nitro-glycerine under the tongue, aspirin, and a description of what the procedure for cardiac patients was. Blood tests, examinations, X rays, and endless ECGs and monitoring eventually showed that the severe chest pains which had woken me in the middle of the night were in fact a serious lung infection. My "abnormal" initial ECG readings were as a result of having a healthier heart than 55 year olds are expected to have, but the ambulance guys and the paramedics couldn't be blamed for not knowing that.

I'm still weak and woozy, sweating, and unable to lift a mallet let alone hit a chisel with it, but the antibiotics seem to have dealt with the worst of the chest pain. The good thing to emerge from all this is that I now know my heart is in tip-top shape. The bad thing is that after typing all this, I'll need to go and lie down. There won't be much work done on the house in the next few days.

Thanks goodness for the NHS. All that done quickly, efficiently, and totally free at the point of delivery.

Hi Mike, That must have given you and yours a bit of a shock!!

Glad to hear the corrected diagnosis and and that you are OK. Maybe sure you take plenty of rest and only restart the heavy work when you are truly fit.
On a couple of occasions when I've had a an infection and been bored and wanting to get on, it has not done me any good and both the job and I have suffered as a result.

Best wishes

Bob

Wow! must have been a shock. Glad all is OK. Antibiotics will hopefully cure it but do not rush things even after the medication has been completed.

get well soon

Glad you are on the mend - some nasty bugs stirred up from your renovation? - if so I'd take to wearing a mask whilst you are undertaking demolition.
Yes I know it's not easy but don't rush back to your building wirk. Wait until you are feeling well then give it another week!

Rod

Mike,

What they said.

Please remember that I am not far away and if you do have something that has to be done, then ring me and I will pop over to lend a hand. Please take care.

As others said, don't rush back - give it an extra few days to prevent a recurrence and then further time off. All the best for what must have been a nasty scare, even if the outcome is not as bad as expected.

Mike, sorry to hear of your health problem. I know from personal experience what a shock it is to be told you have heart problems ..... even though the fuller diagnosis in the case of your heart was very good news. So whilst waiting to be told the full diagnosis I imagine was a very uncomfortable time, physically, mentally and emotionally for you.

Good that it will all be resolved in the fullness of time, but as others have said do allow that time to recover properly.

Another thing we have all learned from your incident is that the remarkable work rate you show is the result of a great motor!!!

Best wishes for your recovery.

Wow, must have been a shock but a good outcome as you say.

As the others said, I always find after a cold/flu bug (after bitter experience) that getting back on the bike when I feel right usually results in a bonk and realising that it will be another week at least before I'm actually right, so take it easy on yourself old man! ;)

Cheers

Oi, whippersnapper...........get your tanks off my lawn.

Good grief, Mike, what a shock but glad your all sorted. Look at it as an opportunity to read all those books you promised yourself.

Or do an indepth analysis of the pro's and con's of Brexit !!

Glad you're feeling better Mike!

Perhaps, with your very recent scare, you shouldn't be giving and indepth analysis on Brexit.

But, it is simple; let's get "out" and give England back its backbone.

Thanks fellas. I'm a lot better today. I might do 2 or 3 hours on the house tomorrow, with a bit of luck.

Sterkte ou maat, vat dit maar kalm vir 'n paar dae.

Cheers
Phil

Baie dankie, Phil. Ek is nou baie beter.

For the non-Afrikaans speakers........."Sterkte" is a great Afrikaans word, often translated as "strongs", but varying in meaning from "have strength/ be strong" to "good luck". Baie means very. The rest is probably translatable if you speak a little German or Dutch.

I'm about to go and swing a mallet at a chisel........ :D

Good luck old friend , take it calm for a few days

Haven't been on much recently, so just seen this Mike. Very pleased to hear it was not as bad as it first appeared and hope you are on the mend now.

Terry.

Hi Mike, just saw this. Glad to hear you are on the mend, I'm sure it was a nasty shock at the time. Hopefully you will / have taken a few days to fully recover before throwing yourself back into things with gusto. I'm constantly amazed with your contributions on here, never mind your physical achievements on your own build and presumably a full time job too!

All the best, David

Thanks Terry, Dave. I'm fine now, all but 100%.

Ditto from me. I've not been here for a while as I've been involved in a relandscaping project rather than woody stuff. What a wake up call! Glad you're OK Mike and nearly back to your usual "rude" self.

I've been away for a break in Greece. A lot can happen in 10 days! Good to see you are now on the mend or mended. Scary stuff.
