Especially after Sunday. Organised walk…leader takes the correct route…some dickhead and cronies decide to walk up towards the house…intercepted by S. I won’t bore you with the cretinous dialogue from said dickhead…...

So I put up three signs on our drive.

Sign 1…….This is NOT the footpath…..Private


Sign 2 ….10 yards further on…What part of the phrase Private do you have difficulty understanding?

Sign 3 ….another 10 yards … Does FUCK OFF do it for you ?

Trespass is only a civil tort, which is extremely frustrating to landowners.

You could contact the PROW dept of your Local Highway Authority, which is government guidance to landowners who have problems with public use of PROWs.

I feel your pain. The last village we lived in was a picturesque tourist village. We lived in a little B-listed cottage, nothing special but pretty from the front. We would always find people with their noses to the window but on more than one occasion I found old biddies actually in our house giving themselves a guided tour!

We actually have the opposite problem up here. Farmers and developers are always blocking off Rights of Way. One developer thought he could ignore a RoW that went straight through the his development but there is a local group who make sure they exercise their rights once a month and go trouping merrily through the garden.

There is no trespass law in Scotland so if you have more than a few acres of land you can expect to see people on your land. As long as you are just passing through, don't cause any damage and are not too close to the actual property (so as not to be invading privacy) then I think there isn't much the land owner can do to stop you (although some friendly farmers do tend to carry their shotguns at the ready - for the foxes of course!)
