• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I started the bandsaw for a small job and it made a banging/clattering noise with a very wobbly blade. Stopped it and had a look, the bottom tyre had partially broken off with most still intact on the wheel.

I had tensioned it prior to use adjusted the guides and had spun the wheels manually to make sure all was well. I have since checked the top tyre and that has two small spilts extending about 1/4 of the way across.

The manual says the wheel is 470mm and I measured the width of an intact fragment as 36mm. The wheel is crowned and the tyre fits into a channel. I have tried to find a supplier on the web but apart from importing form America not a lot of luck.

Anyone have suggestions for suppliers of either a supplier part or an alternative.

Thanks

Kevin

Someone has to ask the obvious.

Not yet, I looked on the web site but there was nothing obvious. I will call them tomorrow.

I will also call the supplier I got the machine from but I am not sure if they still do Jet.

I had seen some of those but wanted to try and avoid American imports, with carriage, import tax, VAT and handling charge it starts to get expensive. I have been caught by this before. Also saw Bandsaw Parts but their standard sizes cover a range and for the 18.5 inch wheel it is the maximum stretch for their 18" tyre and the width is about 1/16 inch wider than the recess, so I need to talk to them about how difficult it is to fit and whether the crown takes up the additional width and if I had to try and cut a 1/16 off the width I know I would make a mess. But thanks for the suggestions so far.

I have ordered a pair of belts from Bandsawparts. They are the Sulphur Grove Tool belts that they import from America. They assured me that fittings hold not be a problem. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your suggestions.

If it’s a Urethane tyre they are reckoned by some to be quite difficult to fit so it may be worth seeing if there are any YouTube videos on the subject! ;)

Warm in hot water and use a smooth rod with no sharp bits to help feed round the wheel.

I decided to renew my bearings at the same time, so I clamped the wheel in the vice to hold it completely firm while fitting tyre, which was extremely helpful.
