• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

We have been having several days of afternoon thunderstorms. A couple of days ago one came with lightning a little too close to home and took out a tree in the next door neighbour's front yard. We heard the CRACK but didn't know what it was until I took the dogs out for a walk after the storm passed by.



No one hurt and no structures damaged but the smoking branch fell on a power line and that later caused us to lose electricity for three hours.
 
Very close, we had a strike hit our home causing $20,000 in damage. Not to the structure but electronic stuff and the electrical panel was upgraded.

Gary, what's that green stuff on the ground ?
 
As it happened, we had just that morning had wiring and a connector installed for a small backup generator. We got to try it out right away. Worked great for getting the lights back on so we could eat our take-away pizza.

Ha. The recent frequent rains have made everything unusually lush for this time of year. Things had become pretty crispy, although not as bad as in England I hear. The downside is that the rains have also brought out the mosquitos. :confused:
