• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

'Makebloke' Chest of Drawers WIP - DUN

Rob I never doubted that for a minute. How many did you do at a time? That level of repetition would have driven me nuts.
Are all those holes for fixing the drawer fronts on?

As the mood takes me, I was making roughly two drawer boxes over the course of a weekend, but by drawer No.12 I was getting heartily choked off with cutting dovetails :( and yep, the holes in the front are for screwing on the fronts.
The next job is to fit each one into it's recess and then make and fit the centre muntins and drawer slips. I haven't got a firm idea yet on drawer pulls but there are one or three ideas floating around in the grey stuff - Rob

Drawers all fit their openings but haven't been fitted for a 'swishy' one finger push fit yet, fronts to be fitted and screwed in place:

Rear view of the unit showing the double runners on the big drawers, or you would be able to see the other one if it wasn't hidden behind the rear leg. The double runners are a complete nightmare to fit as the slightest amount of toe in or out means that the drawer binds. There is a fix, but it's complicated

The screws in the rear legs will eventually be replaced with proper slotted brass jobbies, but that's one of the last things to do - Rob
 
Drawer fronts and CofL bottoms have all been fitted now and I'm onto the handles.

This is not a criticism Rob as I can understand why but I have just noticed how long you have been at it with this one. Are you 100% back to normal duties now?

That looks amazing, you must be very pleased. Will you be posting more detail pictures with the drawers open etc.? I would be very interested to see them if you do.

Then it dawned on me. Seven drawers seven days of the week so it must be underwear and socks organised by day! :lol:

I bet those drawers are so well fitted that when one is closed the air pressure opens another.

Thanks Bob. The capacity of this thing is vast; :shock: the smallest drawer top rhs measures 470 x 185 x 105mm so she could cause mayhem in M&S with her CC and still not fill it!

Never going to happen Andy; it's a skeletal framework :D The walnut you see on the side are the drawer sides - Rob

It really is a thing of beauty and the walnut with the ebony handles work well together.

Bob, Trim can be a bit slow on the uptake sometimes :lol: :lol:

This is the chest of drawers in it's final location, having moved upstairs this morning with the help of my next door neighbour...

SWIMBO has managed to fill it :shock: apart from the very top large drawer.

To answer your question Bob, the fronts and sides are separate. There's a drawer box with ample clearance down the sides, so the finish won't get damaged when it's pulled out. The front is screwed in place and is a much snugger fit into the frame, with a clearance all round of about 0.2mm whereas the sides clear by considerably more. As each drawer runs on a central runner, there's no 'waggle' from side to side as it's pulled out.
