• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Networking question

While our broadband is playing up, I can access the internet by tethering using my mobile. Trouble is that that gives the Mac a different sub-net to the house network. All our printers are networked on the house network and on a different subnet to the phone/Mac which means that we can't print out anything.

Or is there some clever jiggery-pokery I can do to circumvent this?

You can still print just by saving to the local machine, then logging off your phone network and back onto home network. Bband won't work but local printing will.

If you want to print direct while on your phone tether, you can't! Well unless your printer is wifi too and you also connect that to your tether.

Cheers

Thanks chapas. That's what I thought.

OK...I think I may have had two problems at the same time. Have replaced the router with Router B (which I'd already done previously while trying to pinpoint the problem) but Fault Number 1 with router A was masked by Fault Number 2 and so I thought it OK.

House now fully powered up again and we've been steady for a fair time now. Certainly much more stable than yesterday. That's one of the great things about Zen tech support. I needed to know if the router had dropped its connection within the previous hour or so but didn't want to fire up the computer to check. But a quick call to Zen tech and they were able to look into the logs and tell me instantly if the line had been stable over the time in question.
