• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

On this day.......

My daughter lives in Sweden. She was out walking her dog yesterday when 2 moose walked across the same field she was in. Her dog didn't notice! She said they were enormous.

They are majestic and very quiet unless it's rutting season. If they are in the bush you cannot see them but know they are there by the odd snapping of a branch that they step on.

On this day 8 years ago I was framing the room I'm sitting in now:

Yes, that's a beam, to be tenoned into the other beam in the background. I think I probably did double mortice & tenons to try to reduce the weakness a big mortice would have caused.

On this day 5 years ago, my woodworking journey began.

My workbench and tool wall looked a bit different back then:

It was about 2½ years later (but not quite to the day) that I sold my table saw (one of the best decisions I ever made I think) and embraced the idea of doing more hand tool woodwork; but 5 years ago I was just figuring things out (and hadn't even bought the table saw yet)

I needed to install a simple post and rail fence to deter renters from parking on the grass as the septic tank and field bed are located to the right of the fence.
Lucky that I could source nicely weathered split cedar rails and posts. Angled support to the fence was required as I could not dig the holes deeper than 2' to 2 1/2'.

2011; I finally got round to replacing some failed barrel hinges in a chisel cabinet that I made for a competition 5 years earlier.
