• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Whether or not I go the full MVHR route, it still makes sense to duct away the smells and condensation from all the rooms that create it and have a single extraction fan. But how to turn it on?

Simple one-room/one-fan situation you run a feed from the light switch to the fan. If I do that here and common all the feeds then when you turn a light on in one of the rooms, the others light as well. Obvious, innit?!

I could have the feed powering a relay per room and the contacts of all the relays are commoned together to turn on the extractor but there's the aggro of housing the relays etc.

So.....just on the offchance, wondered if anyone knew of a gizmo that would do it all for me?
 
MVHR gets around this, of course, by running continuously, and thus can run at very low levels. Shorter running fans have to run much more powerfully (and noisily). Frankly, if you're going to be moving, save the MVHR for the next house.
 
For the bathrooms could you install a humidistat in each in parallel so that any of them can switch on a single fan unit?
 
That's a good idea, Ian, but wouldn't work in the bog.

Mike's hit the nail on the head. I hadn't appreciated that these MVHR units were more a gentle waft then a gale thus can be left on all the time and so no need for complicated switching.
