• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

OK...the time has come to get that combination machine to replace the separates I sold before we moved (yes, I know separates are better etc etc but circumstances perforce the purchase of a combination machine).

Then we come to the options and I've kind of settled on ...

1) increasing the table area from the standard 850mm to 2000mm

2) tiltable power feed table

3) fine adjuster for the spindle fence

4) digital readout on the thicknesser and the spindle moulder

But that pushes the price up, naturally, and so I'm kind of wondering if I bin them. Or would I live to regret it ?
 
Digital read out on the thicknesser is a definite, wouldn't be without mine.
Larger table would be good if you have the room, no one ever said "I wish I didn't have the extra support this larger table gives"
I don't tend to use the fine adjuster on the spindle fence so could live without that.
Tiltable power feed table is good BUT power feeds weigh a ton so I'd check you can actually lift the power feed without giving yourself a hernia.
I haven't got a digital readout on the spindle so can't really comment other than to say I've never thought I really need one.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Hammer C3 31 with bells and whistles. The advantage of a fine-adjust fence and digital read out on the spindle is that it has to be wound down out of the way when you want to use the table saw. If you get your workflow wrong then it's easy enough to replace the fence, wind up the spndle to where it was and away you go.
