• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have been watching eBay for sometime waiting for a Record 311, a complete one with both front sections to come along at a reasonable price, well it happened at the weekend. I bought it for £60 + £2.80 postage. It had arrived today, while I was out and unfortunately it has been dropped in it jiffy bag and the body has broken in two.

I contacted the seller asked if the postage covered damage, his reply was no, but to send it back with damage over so he could claim the money back.

I am not happy with this but am unsure quite what to do next, it's the first thing I have bought from eBay that has been damaged in the post, and I have bought all sorts stuff that could be broken.
Should I go along with what is really a scam or will eBay get me a refund anyway? I have had refunds when what was sent either did not work or was not as advertised.

To be safe, make a complaint to EBay but I think you can only do that if the seller doesn't refund your monies and after a time has elapsed and negotiations have failed.
Ask the seller for a refund and when he does send him the bits back at his cost. If he didn't insure it, I don't think he'll get much back - some couriers offer about £25 insurance cover for free but for anything more you pay extra.
What a stupid person to send something like that in a Jiffy bag!

Rod

Rod is correct. You can't raise a complaint with eBay until you have exhausted lines f communication with your seller. BUT when you communicate you do need to go via the eBay 'problem' route (think it's one of the options after you've bought something'.... as then it is logged in their system as a problem.

Morally I think that the seller should pay for your postage back but IIRC eBay don't insist on this. Not sure, though. Worth asking.

EDIT: Ah yes, go into Purchase History and in the right side should be 'Other actions'. One of those is Return Item. Clicking that takes you to another page with pulldown menu and Item Damaged is one option. Also space to add comments and is where you could ask for return postage etc. Good luck.

And make sure the return is by a signed for service to prove return....

What are you doing buying tools, Dave? You've got more than enough already ;).

Roger,

Thanks for pointing this out, I use my Kindle fire table for most things these days and that is not shown on the eBay app I use.

I raised a case based on the fact the goods arrived damaged, the seller had until the 29 Oct to respond. he did not reply to it so it went to ebay to look at and they found in my favour. They provided a postage paid with tracking label that I printed out and took the broken plane to the post office. I had emails today from both eBay and PayPal to say the full cost of the plane and postage are now being refunded and it should be in my account in a couple of days.

I am pleased its sorted out but sad that what was a good usable tool was written off by being so poorly packaged and posted.

To be honest, Dave, I think it stretches the imagination somewhat to find a metal plane broken in transit. The cynic in me thinks it was broken when packed.

Well I suppose it could have broken before being posted, they do have a weak point on them and I have seen them braised / wielded up. The postman did push it through the letter box with a drop down to the floor.
