• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Pugh's auction tomorrow Sat 4th

I was looking at that site only last night. Some interesting hand tools.

We plan to go to see the tools on our way elsewhere:

Ring 2. 10am- Collectable woodworking tools, planes, power tools and other small garage items.

We were surprised at how cheap the big kit sold for - especially the Bridgeport mill and the Myford Mystro (both above) - the latter sold for the same price as 6x No6 G-clamps. We tried for the clamps but £50 was the target we set, and we were beaten to that price so no joy. But it was more of a reccy in preparation for the vintage and classic motorcycles sale in February - really enjoyed watching it all happen.

It was when the auctoneer started calling me by my first name when I bid that I thought I should call it a day! It was my stamping ground for many years.

It was my stamping ground for many years.
Me too. I frequented them for 25 years. I remember my first ever win was a rusty Record 25A vice at a farm sale. In those days there was a popular TV series featuring a loveable rogue antiques dealer. As I was the last to bid, I had to call out my name as the successful buyer. That caused a laugh amongst the crowd. I've just installed that vice in my new downsized garage workshop.
My final purchase was memorable as well. I was delivering my final batch of tools to be sold. Naturally I wandered round looking at what else was for sale. What caught my eye was a pile of bits purporting to be a Metabo 260 PT, just what I would need for my future w/s. As the sale date approached I decided to put in a remote bid. Having won it we dashed over to Ledbury to pick it up. To my dismay I realised the pile of bits didn’t include the outfeed table. Howard Pugh saw my familiar face and came over for a chat. I pointed out that the PT was incomplete. Sorry mate, sold as seen. After a few days I decided to cut my losses and ordered a replacement o/f table, which was bringing the total cost near to that of a new m/c. Another couple of days passed and I had a call from H.J. Pugh advising me that the PT seller had found the table and was available for collection. After a 50 mile roud trip to Ross-on-Wye I was the owner of a complete machine. All's well that ends well, and I was able to cancel the replacement table without any hassle.

Lots of memories, Brian. Lots of memories. I remember when I first went there and sold all that firewood....oops sorry...'turning blanks'..that I realised the potential. Happy Days.
