• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I had a fortuitous find a few weeks ago when my eye was caught by four Record Sash Clamps in the window of a second hand/junk shop - at £5 each it was too good an opportunity to miss.

They are the Record 130 (described on the box as cramp heads) and I need to fit them on a wooden bar. A trial fit last night using an old piece of B&Q pine was not all that impressive ... the wooden bar flexed.

I'm wondering about laminating a couple of strips of 12mm ply together or trying a 4mm x 80mm metal bar (which I have gathering dust) with a 10mm x 80mm strip of timber on each face.

Any thoughts on the likely best solution will be welcome.

Try again-sigh, batteries. Yes can’t imagine Oak flexing much, ( so the bar will be 24x80) but also the strip of steel should work, epoxy?
My father had some ends from the early 50’s but they were green, can’t remember what make they were. Ian

I have a few sets and find them very useful. But one of their virtues is their light weight - a heavy metal cramp can be hazardous on a light piece of furniture.

So I suggest you look out for some hardwood. Odd bits from skips are ideal!

I remember seeing someone on UKW had used steel box section in lieu of timber on the clamp head, I can't remember who it was exactly who did it, possibly Peri? I'm sure if he spots this he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not good at identifing timber, but I think the two bars that came with my original clamp heads are mahogany. When I acquired more heads I bought some kwila for additional bars. I guess they flex a little, but not much.

I bought some green ones. They are Marples. They're not quite interchangeable as the pins are a larger diameter.

Cheers, Vann.
