• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I’m rehabbing an Edwardian sash window that runs on chains that are currently attached to the sides of the casement with a couple of U staples. I’d like to replace the attachments so that the chains can be detached/reattached without tools. Any suggestions?

Well, I can’t claim any specific knowledge about chains, but on corded sash windows I use one or other of these.

Perhaps they could be adapted to work with chains, or, at least, the same idea employed.

As an aside I have done all of my windows in the Borders with the crocodile grips ones, including the upper sashes. Now I have made the parting beads free it now takes me about 5 minutes to remove any sash for painting. Which is useful as I am on a very exposed hillside, and the windows need repainting on about a 3 year cycle. Ho hum.

Oh, and I get the fittings from Edina Lock and Key in the ‘burgh. Online as Inbrass I think.

I’m not sure whether D shackles would work. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I’ll probably try something like the round cord tie cup shown too.

I'd just use a nail or two, or the staples that were there. It's not something that needs attention very often, is it?

I’d like to be able to have easy access to the outside of the window for cleaning and maintenance like you get with the simplex system.
