• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Six months or so ago I had already worn holes through all of the previous christmas' M&S socks, and decided to give BlueGuard socks a try........because they are guaranteed for life. Yep, that's right.......if you wear through them EVER, you get a free replacement. They're only a tenner. Those of you who wear safety shoes with steel toe caps know that socks are ruined in weeks.

My Blueguard socks are showing no sign whatever of wear. If you are sick and tired of swapping socks so that your big toe doesn't stick out of a hole, think about investing in a guaranteed for life item which means that never need happen again. I've just ordered another couple of pairs. Stick the receipt in the back of the sock drawer, just in case, and then forget about picking through your socks looking for the ones without holes.

The only downside is that they only come in blue and black.
 
Oddly enough on Radio 4 a couple of days ago, or maybe in one of the proper press, that tall guy who judges the Sewing Bee also said that M&S socks these days are rubbish.

Says in another article we don't need fashion. Most socks are made in PRC apparently. As I wear through the heel of pound a pair supermarket socks in no time, I switched to mountaineering comfort sockies, but will give these a try.

They're thickish. Like a work sock, or a lighter walking sock.

My biggest clothing bugbear recently are zips. I have some fleece type jackets bought before 2007 (from M&S) that function perfectly yet stuff bought in the past 4-5 years ( also from M&S) have needed zip replacements well before any wear appears in the fabric.
The way zips seem to be attached these days with loose fabric adjacent to the stitching that frequently gets caught in the zipper is another bugbear.
 
At my age funerals are more frequent that's why all my socks are black. Apart from that they don't wear out equally so when one goes you just keep the good one until there's another to pair up with. ;)

I've always bought from M&S and IMO the quality has gone down while prices have increased so I find myself walking out of the shop without buying these days.
 
Black Pringle for me all year long, except when it’s really cold then the L L Bean thick green ones come out, so very toasty and the first pair aren’t showing any signs of wear after a lot of use.

This has not been my experience at all. I've been wearing Engelbert Strauss S3-rated safety shoes as my daily wear for the past three years, and have never needed to replace any socks. I bought the shoes when I was a consultant on a construction site, and they are so comfortable I quit wearing my Clarks shoes. The socks I have were three pairs for $10 and are generic black cotton crew socks.
 
Boring socks; life's too short for boring socks. Happy socks are the way to go (and they last longer than M&S things which are now rubbish) -Rob

That's exactly what I use Ian except when wearing wellies or boots. I bought in bulk from Costco which are still going strong, sadly they don't seem to stock them in my local branch now.
 
Every now and then I buy a couple of weeks worth of sports socks from Primark and throw the old ones out, that way no sock matching is needed.
They see to last a couple of years, I have posh socks but they just sit in the draw.

They stopped selling them in Matalan too, found them online at Sockshop!

Woollen sock from eBay when sub zero.

Two layers when really cold only washing the outer socks weekly!
 
Socks & more.

We have Woolworths shops here, food & clothing stores.

Always bought my t-shirts, shorts, socks and jocks from them.

Their quality deteriorated and I started buying elsewhere.

Socks – thickish short and comfortable, Mr Price Sport. Black or grey, easy to swop.

T-shirts and shorts – Makro (2 x T’s for R140.00, R70.00 each, a bargain)

The last lot of jocks bought from Woollies, their own brand, were wide band elastic, comfortable. Needed a couple for holiday.

But!

They were Y-fronts.

The first morning I wore them, we went walking. The further we walked the more the tackle started hanging out! Very uncomfortable. 5 More pairs to go. Back home into the wash, plastic bag and out on top of wheely bin – security or garden people would take them.

Back to Makro for some Jockeys, better quality.
