• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Spot the mistake...

Noodling around yesterday I clicked on this linkie to see there was a horrible goof in it, but where? Suitable jolly snotogram dispatched - Rob

Edit: there may be more than one

Is it the face edge being described as parallel to the face side? And I have never heard of a face joint.......especially when talking about edge-joining boards.

Rather odd to be using a spokeshave on the face of a much wider plank.

The example of a Face Frame Walnut cabinet has overlay doors?

Possibly, you might be right Mike

That's odd as well, but not what irritated me - Rob

That's it but there's no planted on face frame:

The eejit that wrote the piece assumed the doors looked like a face frame had been added. The doors aren't overlayed but set inside the carcass - Rob

Was it even written by a person?
I keep seeing more and more AI generated text, looking superficially similar to the real thing, but full of errors and waffle.

The trouble is Andy that they drag people in off the street into the Marketing Dept who haven't got a scoobies about woodworking and who can barely string two words coherently together. Even worse, I know there's nobody there who can check, or can be bothered, to check the text for accuracy. When I worked there some years ago, there were a few guys who knew what they were writing about but I guess they've moved on and been replaced - Rob

Picking up on the theme, I just fitted a new bandsaw blade from Axminster. Perfectly good blade, 4 tpi, as ordered. It came with this leaflet.

I don't think it was one of Rob's! :)IMG_20241020_151756995.jpg

Did well to get that blade through the wood without a slot. Broken blade for the photo perhaps. And 14tpi wow. Agree with Pete.

These guys are actual idiots when it comes to marketing these days.

As I said earlier, they now just appear to drag any old Tom, Dick or 'Arry off the streets with possibly only the barest minimum knowledge of the subject, added to the fact that there's nobody prepared to quality check what goes out on the website - Rob

Indeedio. The back tooth blade is on the wrong way round. It must surely be embarrassing.

Without wanting to either support them or be a pedant, I’m pretty sure that the visible lines on the wood in the two pics on the left are the pencil lines and if you zoom in on the pics you can actually see the cut lines behind the blades. At least I can on my screen…
