• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Not sure if this should be in Work In Progress, metalwork/engineering or here :lol:

Some of you may know that SWMBO has been recovering from surgery recently on her ankle. This is all part of a long term bid to be worth her weight in titanium and was in fact the 17th such operation on the aged wreck :lol:

I've just got the before and after xrays from the consultant. The before shows screws and pins various to help stabilise the ankle and put off the inevitable shown in the after views of a solid rod to fuse the ankle rigid in all axes and get her walking reasonably once more.

Today we have been told it has fused sufficiently that she can start walking again.

I did warn that it was not for the squeamish!

Thanks for sharing, Bob, and I wish your wife a speedy recovery. It's amazing what surgeons can do these days.

She has lupus which is a malfunction of the auto-immune system. The disease has great fun identifying good parts of the body and setting out to destroy them as bad.
One group of guerillas has been assigned to attacking her lung function which are being held at bay most of the time by drugs.
The second group are on the rampage destroying cartilage and it this lot that are having most success needing a mixture of replacement joints ( knees, wrists, shoulders and knuckles) or permanent fusing for stability (thumbs, big toes and both ankles, the left as above and the right one just as far as the 'before' stage above). It is essentially rheumatoid arthritis in this form.
Another cocktail of drugs seems to be keeping the lupus under control and stopping from causing more havoc in new places. Keeping it out of the liver is amongst the most critical it seems.

Other than that she is fine!

well that's quite something Bob. I was beginning to think seeing x rays of bones being held together was the exclusive domain of my youngest but your Missus is well up there :-)

Nice to hear she is ready to start walking. I wish her the very best of luck with the next steps...

Bob, wish her all the best, she must be tired of your cooking by now.

Presume you made all the pins and stuff in your workshop? Must save quite a packet with NHS.

Thanks Phil. She is used to my sense of humour.
I've been trying to reduce the standard of cooking but it is not working yet. I make a cake today and it was a bit over cooked and crisp on the edges but she still ate it and said it was nice! doh

The NHS monitoring of her problems is everything we could want from the GP to all the consultants. They could not be better.
we repay them slightly by her being an exam question each year. I think she just likes all those young students examining her :lol:

The surgery is a different case. Not high enough priority to get prompt attention. So that is all done privately. 10k ukp for this latest job eek!
Again the care is superb with top specialists only dealing with a narrow selected parts of the body.

That makes the pair of screws in my tibia look a bit lame!
I hope she gets mobile again, I found the lack of use of the leg while it healed had made the art of walking one that needed some work. I had a few sessions with the sport massage chap at the gym, he worked wonders, but it was a relief when he stopped moving the muscles back to where the belonged. :shock:

That is so unfair and unjust. The NHS is a bottomless pit that can consume the entire National GDP. Those patients like your wife should go to the head of the queue. Ahead of hip replacements for fat lardarses who have stuffed their faces full. I get very cross at the injustice.
