• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Good morning all, I have a metabo hc260 planer thicknesser and last week the thicknesser bed suddenly stopped going up and down when the drive handle was turned.

Height is controlled by 4 threaded posts, one at each corner, connected by a chain so they all turn when post one is turned.

I diagnosed the problem as the drive cog on post one was just spinning because the pin the goes through the cog into the post and ensures they turn together had dropped out.

I found the pin and after much swearing and frustrating disassembly of the machine managed to reinsert it.

I have now found that the bed is no longer parallel to the cutter. Does anyone have an idea of how I adjust the bed to make it parallel again?

The manual is not great on troubleshooting.

Well it seems to me that the corner you reinserting the pin into needs the pin taken out and that corner moving up or down till it is all parallel again then put the pin back in again.
The only fly in the ointment is how the two posts on that side are moving in relation to each other. I think it’s going to be a case of experimentation. Best of luck, and when it’s fixed maybe a spot of locktite on the pins.

Firstly make sure the knives are set perfectly to the same height with restpect to the out feed table in planer mode. Switch to thicknesser mode and take the chain off and adjust the screws until it will cut parallel. Refit the chain without moving any screw more than a fraction of a tooth to get it to fit the chain pitch.
Job done

Is it a proper chain ?
Would splitting the chain (if easily accessible) be an alternative option and refitting/joining once adjustments are made?
Cheers., Andy

Cheers all, none of the mechanism is easy to get to so will have a look. I think the chain is fixed rather than able to be dismantled. I suspect my best bet is to release the chain as 9fingers has suggested.

What a pain in the Rs!

Thank you will report back when I get a chance and some space to dismantle it again.

I didn't mean use a split link in the chain I was more thinking towards using a link remover to remove one of the pins.

Understood Andy, thanks. The main issue I’m having is space to be able to tip the machine over to access the chain.
