• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

This is what you call a tool chest!

Behind me as I stand at my bench is a pair of double doors that only get used occasionally. So the doors became a tool wall.

It has never been ideal but workable. I have considered building a tool cabinet to fill the space but as the end wall was only 400mm from the reveal of the door I have always abandoned the plan. But then I had an idea what if the door folded around corner. So I can have a cabinet. Well it started off a modest size but ended up 2m tall 1.5m wide and 500mm deep. That is one enormous tool cabinet.
IMG_2766.jpegI can now get back to making things in particular chairs.

I haven't got my bearings there, Peter. How does the cabinet relate to the double door position?

Your cabinet is very much like mine....only somewhat more posh.

Oops you spotted my inspiration.
The doors are behind the main cabinet. In other words it fills the reveal of the doors…and some.

Ah, right........so the second photo is taken from a few paces to the left of the first.

What's the little shadow gap under the upper cabinet?

Yes
I was thinking of having a door on the plane till that drops down. I have not decided hence a space. I keep thinking that such a door would only cause problems as the space in front of the till is going to end up being a tool shelf. My current thinking is to have no door in which case I will put some moulding around to cover the gap.

How does that far door work, Peter? The one with the tenon saws hinged onto a much smaller one for chisels etc. And what have you got hiding behind the spokeshave/ comb. square leaf?

On the back of the tenon saws are my hand saws. I screwed a baton half the depth of the frame that goes around the door. Then fitted a plywood panel on piano hinges. Tenon saws and dovetail saws on the front and hand saws behind. I will take some photos tomorrow. Behind the spoke shave doors are two shelves with sharpening stones and pencils etc.

It better be. Not much room for additions.
There is plenty of room yet behind the screwdrivers, rasps and hammers is currently empty. I need to make some shelves for various things like my trammel, drills etc

That is lovely, Peter. Multiple marking gauges is next on my list of wants.
Thanks. Marking gauges and mortise gauges are a bit like clamps you can never have enough. The chairs I am about to make have 6 different mortise set ups. Now whilst you can do all the front legs then all the rear legs, that still means I need 3 mortise gauges.

Crikey you do have a lot of tools! No wonder you felt you needed a cabinet.
I’m beginning to wonder if it’s me that’s tool deficient?
I have too many tools, but the ones you can see do get used.

I'm dreadfully jealous of that nice, full tool cabinet. Suppose I could make one, but a) I never go in my workshop these days (tools migrated to house) and b) wifey thinks there are other priorities.
