• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Does anyone know where I could find tiny fanlight-style catches (that is, small surface-mount spring latches)? I’m looking for something low profile, projecting no more than 10 mm from the surface, and no more than 20 x 20 mm

I’m actually interested in hearing about any kind of low profile fasteners, particularly those that exert wedging pressure. It’s for midge screens that I really need to ensure are tight against their stops.

Thanks Andy.

Screens get opened multiple times a day much of the year so that the windows can be opened & closed (screens are interior to outward opening windows) and then taken off for several months.

For the current screens I made, I started off with magnets but decided really needed to be sure of the contact all the way round the screen so made rotating wedges screwed to the screen for the first one and sliding wedges for the second one which are just loose (but will probably attach them soon). I could make wedges again for the new screens, but thought I’d see if there was some hardware that would suit. Unlike the first two screens I’m planning on hinging these ones.

The box clasps are probably the right size and look pretty nice. They produce pressure to close the gap between the two pieces, but I’m looking for pressure at 90° so that the back of the screen is tight against the front of the stop (which I could produce with careful placement, but if there’s a design that incorporates increasing pressure like a wedge, that’d be perfect).

I've just remembered that our secondary glazing uses a very simple self-adhesive magnetic strip. It comes as a flexible magnetic tape that sticks to the back of the plastic sheets, plus a white steel strip that sticks to a flat surface of the window. It grips well all around, giving a near-airtight seal.
If there's any risk of panels getting knocked off, and to position them correctly, you can use simple moulded plastic catches that pivot on a single screw. They do several sizes/strengths.

More info here:

I'm sure you could use one of their systems to hold wood-framed screens easily and securely.

Hi, sorry I haven't exactly found a match, I was posting "fitch" hoping it jogged someone's memory.
I did find -Croft 1825L- which is 23 mm high. --> 23mm brass fitch
The same website lists lots of things but not always shows the Height.

p.s. how about a cheap version that you drill out the rivet and discard the base. A countersink machine screw through frame with nyloc inside face. That would make it low profile.

Alex.
