• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Trimble Towers Workshop - Fitting out begins...

Easter Rod, I’ve got a lot of football matches (kids and my own) and family event eating my weekends in Feb and March so evenings after work is my only really free time.

I’ve been out there today and all frames now have 3 coats of white primer, just bathed kids and wife reading to them so I’m back out to get a topcoat onto at least one frame...

Baby steps, but I’ve made great progress this week so I’m pleased.

One frame and 2 sashes each with a single topcoat on. Will get another on tomorrow and then decide whether they need a third...

It gets excellent reports. Once you've painted wood with it, you never need sand it down again. Just put another coat on.

It’s a very matt finish, though it does last well & can be rejuvenated with a wipe vet of linseed oil

I quite like her, I've subscribed and will take a look at some of her other videos at some point. Right now I need to catch up on a week's worth of meaningless crap that happened while I was off work last week, all the time whiling the minutes away until I can get back in the shop and get that second topcoat on that window so I can try and get it installed ASAP!!!

Her work is relatively basic but rather like Norm, there is a "can do " attitude about the videos that breathe confidence into viewers to have a go. There are a smattering of good ideas and besides she is quite easy on the eye! :lol:

One full frame and sashes finish painted. Other frame finished and one more coat per sash and I’m done painting.

Had to come to London today and staying over so no progress tonight sadly. Have things on at home Wednesday and Thursday night so probably won’t get painting finished until Friday evening.

We then go up to York for the annual Jorvik Viking festival for the weekend. My little girl is doing Vikings for her school project so seemed like a great opportunity.

My Mum having the kids for next weeks half term though so evenings are mine and I plan to have the windows in by next weekend.

Consumer unit, 10mm SWA, glands, clips etc on order and with any luck the SWA will be free from a mate who works for an electrical company. He’s already got me 100m if Cat6e for free and a reel of alarm cable so hopefully they will go in next week and we can fill in the trenches.

Drain have been signed off and part backfilled with stone and hopefully my man will be back up this week to finish that and lay the patio stones back down.

We’re getting there...

Been going there for this weekend since 2005.....usually as part of the main parade and battle on the saturday. Will probably be there in civvies this time.
 
After winning 3-3 at football this morning I managed to get a few hours in the garden along with a mate and managed to pull all the cables and conduits through the various handily places conduits already under our patio.

This means I now have the 10mm SWA, 2*alarm 6 pair and 2*Cat6 pulled through all the way from the workshop to the front of the house.

My mate also terminated the SWA into the CU so the garden trenches can now be backfilled and get SWMBO off my back from that perspective.

All football cancelled this weekend so it’s time for jobs!

Windows are all painted up and going in. Had an issue with my foam gun being clogged so spent a while sorting that then having to go and get more foam and cleaner this morning, as well as police the kids homework... but in the workshop now and hoping to have both windows in by the end of the day.

Not a a bad view from where my workbench will be situated...

Haha, I’ll be divorced if it’s not ready and the garden cleared before summer!!

Totally changes the way a building looks when the windows go in doesn’t it! Wife was very happy even with this small advancement.

If it provides any competitive incentive, Mission Control chose the paint today to contrast, maybe compliment, the French Grey of the cladding, for me to paint the door and window frames.
 
Just the one window makes a lot of difference to the light down that end. This will be the handtools area with the bench under the window.

Well one in is 50% of the progress I wanted to make today. I’m on-call this week and just been paged to deal with other people’s incompetence once again so I think that might be it for the day.

Kids want to play with Dad too and given I’ve been at this for a while it’s family time now.
