• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Turkey, goose or something else.

While on the subject of food ................. 8-)

Here is a very nice spice mix for chicken or lamb.

I mixed it all up, and depending on how many meals are being cooked, will add a teaspoon or 2 to the onion and tomato in the pot before adding the meat and veg.

Moroccan Spice Mix

Ingredients

10ml (2t) – ground cumin
10ml (2t) – ground ginger
10ml (2t) – ground coriander
10ml (2t) – ground cinnamon
10ml (2t) – paprika
5ml (1t) – turmeric
2ml (1/2 t) - chilli powder or cayenne pepper (add whatever burn you want)
3ml (1/2 t) - ground nutmeg

Method
Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

Rule 1 - No salt
Rule 2 - no processed foods of any kind (bacon :( :( :( )
Rule 3 - no red meat
Rule 4 - Spuds in the form of chips - once a month
Rule 5 - Sweet potato, same as spuds
Rule 6 - Go easy on the tomatoes
Rule 7 - Go easy on the olives, pickles
Rule 8 - No tomato sauce, Soya sauce or stuff like that
Rule 9 - no chinese food (soya and salt)
Rule 10 - Go easy on the cheese(s) :(
Rule 11 - Watch the proteins

I am happy to say that I have blithely disregarded all of your dietician’s rules for all of my life.

Except for the sweet potato one. We used to know it as kumara or kumala, and I’ve never been fond of it.

That list would seem to suck all the joy out of existence. The back of my hand to it.

I think ones DNA is a big factor. If you get unhelpful metabolism and couple that with greed, then add a soupçon of no self control, then you do not fit into your wedding dress 15 years later. Wife does, I don't

Never had you down as a cross-dresser, Adrian ;) :)

I have chronic kidney disease hence the strict diet. At this point, 4 years after being diagnosed, we, the Nephrologist and myself, have it under control. 8-)
Further deterioration eventually can lead to dialysis and/or transplant. Not the route to go. I am still fairly young.

We have a tenant in one of the units who is on dialysis 3 times a week.
I asked what does he do, medication/diet?

"O no F-ck, at 85 could not care less."
So I said, well go and complain somewhere else about your dialysis and pains.
I am not sympathetic.

Turkey crown and a nice ham for us. Mr T makes a lovely fricassee from the leftovers the day after Boxing Day.

I don’t mind Turkey, it’s all the boys around it I really like. Like Mike and Adrian I’m a self professed roastie master and did a pretty damn good job again this year, even if I say so myself. Peeled and par boiled whole (even the large ones), fluffed up in colander, steamed dry, soaked in goose fat for a while then transferred to preheated tray full of goose fat. Heat up high and turned regularly. Magnificent!
