• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Underwhelmed!

The Olympic opening ceremony, in my very 'umble opinion, was completely underwhelming. I have absolutely no idea why I sat through three hours of that drivel (pun there🤣) and there are plenty of adverse comments on soshal meeja. I kept on thinking about how good our ceremony was in 2012 but then we had HM, 007 and Mr.Bean on our side. Plus the Spice Girls if memory serves - Rob

I agree and thankful for fast forward on the PVR. However, we both thought that the metal horse galloping down the Seine was utterly mesmerising.

If anyone hasn't seen it, try and watch that part. Then look at this video that shows how it was done.

I think it is quite hard to do something overwhelming outside when it is chucking it down with rain. Very unlucky. Only saw fragments as we had oodles over for a BBQ and I was slaving over hot coals.

I said to her majesty on Friday that I was already fed up with the olympics.
In truth, the msn speculation and hype.
Doing my best to ignore the whole thing.

True; my immediate thought was the river pageant down the Thames some years ago when HM and the DofE had to stand in the pouring rain; I think HM had the sense to use a 'brolly though - Rob

We were surprised how a Canadian and an American were top billing. Lady Gaga has exactly what to do with French culture?

Read plenty about how the 2012 ceremony was not universally lauded outside of the UK.

We’ve just got back from Paris having watched some pool games in the Rugby 7s on Thursday. Stade de France was rocking even though Les Bleus lost to Fiji. Would have loved to have been there yesterday to see them get revenge in the final.

I think the last time I watched an olympics properly Daly Thompson was in it:)

I was looking forward to the opening ceremony given the hype but turned it off after a disappointing half an hour. I watch a fair bit of sport but can't get enthused this time.

Hmmm........I thought the 2012 opening ceremony was at times ludicrous and embarassing. People in nurse uniforms doing synchronised bed-pushing was a particular low point.

Dave Gilmour was of course brilliant.

Alex Yee’s sprint finish today was awesome. We seem to be doing quite well all round.

I was lucky enough to be at the opening in London 2012. I guess you are never going to be able to please all the people all of the time and I thought it hit the mark. The arrival of the Queen by parachute was brilliant as was the reaction of the crowd when Muhammad Ali came on stage.
