• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. USB to Micro USB Cables

Do you know how long it has taken me to find out that there are 2 different types of Micro USB cable?

Some are ONLY for charging and cannot transfer data. :evil: :twisted:

What stupid IT geek thought of that. Daft, just plain daft.
 
Evidently some travel chargers (ie cheap with slow charging rates) supplied with some phones do not have the data wires within them and therefore can only charge.

The cheap Huawei phones that I have came with such chargers and cables. The chargers with the Motorola phones had the cable hard wired.

The reason I discovered this BTW is we wanted to use micro SD cards as internal storage for music on the Motorola phones. To do this they have to be formatted in the phone and then cannot be used in any other device (certainly not the iMac nor HP Laptop). So the only way to xfer files is either via Bluetooth which is very slow or using a USB cable. I beleive there are apps available to use wifi to xfer files but not tried this yet.
 
Don't blame the IT geeks Andy. They invented the full usb standards and associated connectors but it was the device manufacturers who would have decided to save minute amounts of money by making up leads without data leads to connect to their chargers to their devices.

I've never had a motorola phone. Every phone I have had with MicroSD in it - 16Gb up to 128Gb cards - the card has been readable in windows with no problem.

If I'm filling the card with music from the PC I'll just take the card out and use a card reader as it is much faster than a USB cable.

the high capacity SDXC cards do need an up to date card reader or you get an error saying the card is not formatted when it is. Apart from that no problems.

What format does Moto use? FAT32 is normal and readable easily in windows.

I forgot to mention this earlier but because we ( ie my daughter ) wants to put apps on the SD card as well as music files it has to set up as "Internal Storage". Once configured as such the card is not readable in any other device.

If it was only music files and not apps that we wanted on the SD cards than the SD card would be set up as "Portable Storage" and we could swap between devices at will.

So the only way to xfer files is via USB, Bluetooth, or I understand by a wifi xfer app.
