• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Well hello

Bob 9fingers informed me of the forum so thought I had better join

Glad to see some old names and some new - I Have been quite busy with my company, moving to Devon and even building a new workshop using Mikes useful guide.

Hello and welcome :)

the moderated thing will go away after 3 posts so keep posting :)

Would you like me to add you location on the members Map? Devon is rather large, first couple of digits of your post code would give others a rough idea of where you are while still providing security.

Sure Andy - it's EX14, just down the road from Axminster tools ;)

Here's some pictures:-

Very nice looking shop. So what goes on inside that red box. Looks very techy

Not sure if having a tool store just down the rood is a good or bad thing. :D

Hi Andy,
Thanks, that is one of two laser cutter/engravers ;)

It is tempting but I have resisted quite well - Yandels is not too far either :-)

Welcome Dave. Nice to see someone putting their shed on a plinth! :)

So.......the laser cutter thingy. Is this for destroying whole cities from space, or does it have a woodworking function?

Thanks Mike - your guide (UKW) was invaluable.

The original slab was laid right up against a Devon hedge bank so I wanted to raise the DPC level so the far right back corner was out of the mud. I still need to sort out the step :). The floor is floating on top of 100mm Kingspan with 18mm chipboard flooring and then the laminate flooring reclaimed from the front room ;)

We have sawmills within a few miles so all the treated wood came from just down the road and was fantastic quality/price. The door was a bargain at £10 from our local recycling plant :)

The lasers are capable of cutting up to 6mm ply (albeit slowly), 4mm MDF, card, Perspex etc. but not metal. They also engrave. I get some fascinating jobs from simple signs to shop displays.

I have another cabin further up the garden which will be the woodworking space (dust and lasers do not mix well ;)).

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

Did you move from Kent?
I think you helped me acquire some nice apple wood from Bob.

Good to see you back on the forum. [emoji3]

Hi Dave - yep that's me. Nice bit of wood that, don't think I have any left now :)
