• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Woodworking shows & open day announcements

Apparently I missed all the best stuff on the traders' stalls last time by waiting until after dawn to arrive, but I'll aim for 9.30 ish on Wednesday.

The timing's wrong for me, unfortunately.

To anyone who can make it, don't hesitate. Lovely place, timber and people!

Not sure if this has been mentioned before... But there's another gathering coming up, for anyone who wants to buy old tools, meet old woodworkers* and have a right good natter.

Carlton Scroop village hall, near Grantham, Lincs. Saturday 10 October, NG32 3AR, all day, free entry, free parking, tea and cake available.

See you there!

* Young woodworkers also very welcome.

I might just pop along to that - if I can tear myself away from my shed upgrade (and the Mrs!)...

Right, who else is coming along to Carlton Scroop on Saturday? I'll chuck some bog oak in the car if anyone wants any......but it won't be much.

I'll be there, somewhat embarrassed that I haven't used the last bit yet, but it would be good to see you.

No photos?
Had hoped to get along in the afternoon but road closures scuppered those plans, the diversions ment I got home with less than 10% battery charge 😖

I was there, but didn't take any pics this time, sorry. I was too busy chatting and looking over the tempting displays.

I was talking to the organisers and they are keen to keep it running, so expect to see confirmation of similar Spring and Autumn dates next year.

That’s good news Andy, the spring extravaganza doesn’t usually clash with any other show so I should be able to make the next one, hopefully so will Andy B

.....and I even bought some tools. I bought a Record router plane, and a small carving gouge. If I'd brought more cash with me the little router plane might have come home with me. Good to see AndyT and Pete, as always.

Heads up for this event which occurs later in the year in the most wonderful of modern venues The London Design and Engineering UTC.
You know the sort of calibre it is when, Geoffrey Fowler, the CEO and principal, is up for the head teacher of the year award 2026.
Just so you know the first part of the week is occupied with various courses to take part in with access to the main event on Friday and Saturday.
With some trepidation and all being well, I have been tasked with presenting a couple of slots talking about unusual tools, not nervous, honest  🫣
Check out the website and shout up if you have any questions.
Cheers, Andy
Just a matter of weeks away now, anyone going or thinking about it?
Cheers

Thought about it a while back, but it's a pain to get to on the toob, expensive to get in and the main venue is no bigger than a school gymnasium; you can see everything there is to see in about ten minutes. If you're attending a presentation you'll spend a bit more time there obviously but you won't be picking up any boards of nice timber - Rob
