• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Worried about starting posting again

Hello everybody and to administrators
To try and cut to the chase I have to be blunt .
sorry if i upset someone ,
Can't you not change the website name to woodhaven.com instead of "thewoodhaven2" ?
would this cause problems with the old server website "thewoodhaven" or was it .....
" the woodhaven.com " ? Whatever it was ....Could it be adjusted with minimal effort ?
Is their something else that in my ignorance i'm leaving out ??

I recon this numeric addition to the name
could be a reason that their is not as much people on the forum as their used to be .
I just feel that their on the fence as well as I , about starting postings again
because it was very dis-heartening to have them disappear .

Furthermore in this age of good advertising upfront catchy brand names exc..
combined with the trends of websites disappearing these days
I'm worried that this once great website might get left in the dark .

I feel the name might discourage newer members from joining as quick
To me the number 2 after something .. gives me the impression
that something newer is going to come along .
thus makes me on the fence about starting postings again .

Other that the name I really love everything else ,great subcategories
lovely ambiance with the colours and most of all
GREAT PEOPLE
Ive always felt their was more effort put into the postings on this forum
than with other forums ...

This forum attracted very kind people who weren't into clogging the forum up
and chose to do , like an half an hours research before posting previously
answered questions .
Ive noticed that a lot of people are getting knocked on the other forums
for making things that are deemed by some ....too !
Thats where this forum used to shine and thats where these people used to go
to take refuge from the ....... i wont say
These people that are into really fancy exquisite crafts are possibly too OCD to start posting
their very OCD effort-full blogs because of the impression they have of said number
Very sorry for upsetting whoevers in charge ..
Slowly amassing a blog but afraid yet..
Tomas

Hello Tomas and a warm welcome to the forum.

You make many good points and raise valid questions.

The original domain The Woodhaven is still registered to Tom and so the only option left to us was either to come up with a completely new name or modify the existing name. We chose the latter and Thewoodhaven2 was born. You have no fear that there will be a 'woodhaven3 or a '4!! There are several of us involved in setting up, testing and managing the new forum and we certainly don't want to go through all that again!

You will find that we are still the same old people and with the same ethos as the original forum and we intend for it to stay that way.

So, feel free to jump right in, ask away and let us all know what you are up to. We love photos !!

If you let AndyP know your location then he can add it to the Member's Map.

Welcome to the forum Tomas, thanks for taking the time to find us.
As Roger has mentioned the old Woodhaven was very much a one man band, Tom did it all, so when, for reasons still unknown, he decided to pull the plug there was nothing we could do. As there are 6 of us sharing the load here a repeat is most unlikely.
Unfortunately we have been unable to recover any of the old Woodhaven's history so please do not be shy in posting details of any old projects.
The forum membership is not as high as the old haven yet and we do not have the commercial ties that Tom had but we are growing steadily and we aim to provide a warm welcome to all woodworkers no matter their abilities.

If you let me know where you are you might even find a forum member around the corner from your own workshop.

And from me, welcome. I fully endorse Andy's and Roger's sentiments, so it's good to see you here and we look forward to seeing the sort of stuff you produce - Rob

Hi Tomas

Welcome from me too. When we set up Woodhaven2, we wanted to make it as similar to the original as possible as we all agreed with Tom's ethos. We also hoped that he might come out of the woodwork and feel able to join in and feel that it was a familiar environment. So far that has not happened.

Cheers

Bob

A warm welcome from me as well. Do let us know what you are making, don't forget, we do like pictures. [emoji269]

Hello again
Is there any sign of this domain name reverting to the original title without the discouraging 2 involved?
Has anyone being talking to Tom since?

There has been no traffic here since, like.

Still waiting on it with hope.

Hope your all well

Hello Tom,
To answer your question, the original domain name is not available so we are where we are.

I really dont see what is off-putting about adding a 2. you only need to do it once and from then use bookmarks which you can re-name to what ever you like.

There is regular traffic here. 10s of posts made today alone so I don't understand your comment?

Tom S is alive and well and posts here from time to time. AFAIK he does not own the domain name any more.

We are always happy to see new posters here and we now have an advanced photo hosting set up without the size restrictions that you find on UKW

Hope this answers your questions.

Bob

I've just looked up the original domain name

results:

thewoodhaven.co.uk is already registered*

Domain name:
thewoodhaven.co.uk

Registrant:
Iliya Bazlyankov

Registrant type:
Non-UK Individual

Registrant's address:
The registrant is a non-trading individual who has opted to have their
address omitted from the WHOIS service.

I don’t understand the problem. What difference does it make what the forum is called? :?:

If you have something you want to say to the folks on here post away, if not post somewhere else.

Edit: Is there any reason the website banner cannot say “Woodhaven” whilst the URL remains as http://thewoodhaven2.co.uk. or is it the URL the OP objects to?
