• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

This Melanie Goertz playing a very melodic arrangement of Mark Knopflers Brothers in Arms in the week that he sold most of his guitar and amp collection.

She's using an open head semi cutaway Taylor, which I presume has nylon strings on it. Even with a Capo on, she's getting a remarkable amount of depth of bass. Never come across her before, but this is very clean playing and I like the guitar: plain and elegant.

Paul Temple theme with some nostalgic graphics.

I have just stumbled on this

I remember this song from when I was an apprentice back in 1971, this is a good cover.

65 years ago this month, the music died.

Thanks Dave, that was damn good!! :text-goodpost:

as an aside....what, or where is Pinch?
he is missed

I conversed with Paul last month he is well and he said he would update us soon with progress on that skeletal model house he was building.

I love Irish singers that still sound so Irish in song. A bit of a blast from the past I just stumbles upon on YouTube: Mary Dillon (Cara's sister) with Deanta.

That's not a Beethoven piece you come across much. I'd forgotten about it as his major piano works dominate for most of us. Alice has brilliant technique and accuracy but I've always found her jerky left arm movements distracting. Thanks for the reminder of this work.

And another. This (but not this version) was played at two of my children's funerals. I think it's better slower, like this one, but the Pahud/Miilman version is wonderful as well. Curiously, it doesn't depress me.

This is a band I follow on YT. The basis is the two on the left, a father and daughter and their friends. In 2022, they put together a live show. They mainly cover classic rock and pop songs. The Fossils choose the older numbers and the Foxes choose the newer ones. I didn't know which one of theirs to choose. But two electric guitars in harmony covering the flute solo, well…..

Apparently this song came to John Phillips in the middle of a cold night in New York. Having penned as much as he could, he woke up Michelle and asked for her help.

"It's 2am. Go back to sleep!"
"No it's really good, but I need your input"!
"No! Go back to sleep".
"Look, if you give me some help I'll give you half the royalties"!
"We're a married couple! I already have half the royalties!"

And she went back to sleep! 🤣

I'll probably get knocks for this but here goes anyway

Ban her! Mods, ban her instantly. :D :D

On the plus side, at least he sings. Something of a novelty these days.

Foxes and Fossils is a band I follow too and have met and played with (musically) one of the girls. Also met James Blunt, in his pub in Chelsea, and he is a very genuine bloke. Interesting picks above.

Just caught this on SkyArts. I’d forgotten quite how good they were live away from the more popular hits

Must watch it again more loudly when the house is empty.

Cover of one of my favourite tunes. I knew this long before it was made even more popular by a certain TV programme.

Although I'm not the world's greatest fan of choral music, I recently stumbled across a piece called Spen in Alium composed by Thomas Tallis. I'll not post a specific link as there seem to be quite a few options. Definitely one of those pieces to be absorbed in once you've cleared your mind.
