• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

How to reduce size of my photos? I post from my cell phone?

Stick them on a laptop, which I presume converts the pics into smaller files, what you can simply drag from a folder onto the screen.
Looking down at phones are not good for the neck.

I could go on about the benefits of photographing ones work, and being able to see things on an ample screen,
in comfort,
Great for designing things, inspecting work (which provisions one might need to account for and be thankful of)
or even just to retrace ones steps to find something lost.
I would hate to have to use a phone for this, or indeed reading the forums
Unfortunately this time round, not found me chuck key yet, and looked in person and through me folder,
been using two cheap pipe wrenches for the last while, lol.

That's my 2cents.
Hope your doing well after the op you mentioned.

All the best,
Tom

Thanks Tom, I'm not very good with the computer stuff , just not interested.
Doing well so far, a lot of time in the shop puttering around and working on projects. Otherwise I would loose my mind.
Better in the shop than irritating my wife.
Hence all the posts of late.

I thought I'd be the luddite here, with a sub 50 quid samsung camera w/big screen, a basic thing what has a tough life in the shed,
and an auld laptop what's not doing great either.
I just plug the thing into the laptop, and copy/cut my pictures from the camera, and paste them into a named folder.

Ready to drag into where your writing, on this new forum upgrade, with no compression or anything else necessary.

Tom

Tried that but had issues, I now have a FlashDrive and will try to get the photos off my phone.

To reduce the size of photos from my Samsung A20 I email them to myself. The Samsung email app allows you to resize the image before sending.

I do this, if away from base and need smaller images on tablet etc. for inclusion in documents.

I find that the new software on here resizes photos very well, even when I'm posting directly from my phone.

But if you need your photos to be smaller, another way is to adjust the settings in your Camera app before taking them.

Depending on what exact software you are using, there should be a Settings option somewhere, looking like a cogwheel. It might have numbers to choose from or just 'high, medium, low' or something like that.

Phones may sell on the claimed number of pixels in their photos but generally go higher than anyone generally needs.

Not on my Android which I find is a real PITA.

If I add a picture to a post from iPhone, the forum software always tells me it’s too large. I used to take a screenshot of the picture displayed smaller than screen size and post that, but now even that doesn’t work - it’s still too large. But I just noticed the album feature and uploaded a couple of photos to a new album - the software complained that the pics were too large to include in a normal post, but didn’t complain at all when I uploaded the same pics to an album. Seems odd. I notice no one else uses albums.

You could try the Open Camera app (free and open source). It works alongside your vendor's stock camera app. Lots of useful features, including control of resolution settings. Android only though, so no use for iPhone users.

On the phone itself, I have no idea, but once you have them on a Windows laptop you can use an image editing programme. I suggest Faststone, it's a free download and has a very good resize option that allows you to specify how many px wide (or high) you want the image.

I attach the photos to an Outlook e-mail, which then asks what size, select the smallest, e-mail created and the just copy back to a new folder.
There is some loss of definition but nothing serious.
Have a look at my thread KNP under Manglers, all those phots started out between 950KB and 2.66MB, down to 25.8KB and 201KB
