• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Glue up when cold

Just to add. It was a bit too cold in the shed yesterday, so this was brought into the house, for gluing. Did I use enough clamps, or do I have a problem? (48 clamps of the smaller, lighter type) Bod1

    Compressor problem

Voltage drop because of the very long extension cable? Worth trying directly to a wall socket, see if it works without the extension leads. Electricity gets weaker the longer wires it has to go through, add in a few less than perfect connections, what went in at 240 volts may come out at 200...

I think Gramercy got it wrong

The angle of the toe, is a compromise to allow for wear in the bench hole, what started as a 3/4 inch hole, after 10-20 years of regular use, will not be 3/4 or maybe even 1 1/4 inches. The life span of these holdfasts I would expect to be measured in generations, not decades. Bod

    Kity 419 table saw.

Just aquired one of these, fitted a 200mm dia. blade, which retracts fully, once the top guard is removed! I want to set this up to cut tenon cheeks, which means cutting 10mm from the top of the riving knife. Or removing the knife? I have a spare knife, so this wouldn't be a one way job. Cut or...

    Woodworking in a car.

I once worked in a lorry body factory. On the retirement of the woodshop supervisior (50 years service.) one of other men had been involved with the restoration of an Austin Shooting Brake (very early estate car) brought the car in for the supervisior to have a look at. Many years earlier, the...

    Stair repair.

The tread has split the riser, due to heavyweight footsteps! I propose to strengthen the back edge of the tread by screw & glue a 50 x 75 (2x3) battern, full length to prevent flexing. Good idea, or bound to failure? Thanks Bod1

    Under floor heating.

I am thinking of using under floor heating in a new extension. Currently it will be run by a gas boiler. To future proof it against the gas being replaced by a Air source heat pump, what should I specify differently to a gas boiler installation. I don't want to dig the floor up, just to change a...

    King Dick Sockets

I've just received a King Dick socket, what makes this one different, is that it has the "Hex drive" system. Rather than the normal square drive. I have Britool hex drive sockets, but have never seen or heard of King dick using this system. The socket is bright chrome finish, and doesn't look...
