• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A guide to hard wax finishes which might be useful

Thanks for sharing that Andy, I usually find Nick's videos informative and easy to watch. That one was timely for me, as I'm looking for a decent hard wax oil at the moment. Cheers Geoff

Thanks for the prompt reply. I didn't think to bring it in! It's small enough to do that. Problem solved. 😁 Cheers

    Glue up when cold

Could I seek some help and advice from this knowledgeable forum please? I need to glue up a small cabinet in the coming days. With the temp forecast to be around 4 or 5 degrees, and my garage having just a small space heater, will I be ok to use PVA? I do have the option of using 2 part epoxy...

Fobco. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Hi, Thanks for the comment. "Arc of shame"... I like that. 😁 Yes you're correct, I used JBWeld to fill it in.

Fobco. They don't make 'em like they used to.

I bought this Fobco pillar drill in an auction. (Around the £200 mark inc fees). Fully stripped it down, painted, new bearings and belt fitted. I have to say, you can feel the build quality oozing out when you use it. I reckon it's next service is due in about 50 years... Geoff

Thanks Mike, you're right re the pins. I noticed that from previous feedback. With hindsight I guess I could have made them a bit more beefy, or mitred the ends, But I have a good glued joint with the tails, so with the lightish use it'll get I don't think I'll have a problem. But It's good...

Thanks Gary. It's lovely old oak. They were cupboard shelves that my brother down south bagged from an old cupboard in a school. They were heading for a skip. 😱

Thanks Mike. They're a wee bit bigger than they seem in the photo. I've put quite a heavy chamfer round the bottom.

I get increasingly asked by family and friends for the "could you just do...." type of jobs. I'm sure everybody here hears similar. I've usually just grabbed whatever tools I think I might use, and left them loose in the back of the car. So I decided I needed a tool tote. My options were; 1...

Telegraph sub cancellation - heads up

Living in Lancaster I get the benefit of 'Press reader' completely free. Most big title newspapers and magazines, both UK and world. The subscription is paid by Lancashire library service. I don't know whether other areas have this, but it's a great perk from library membership...

No I didn't glue them in Andy. I took good advice from others on here, and fitted them into a rebate, held in with beading that was screwed in place.

    Small cabinet doors with mirrors

Thanks for that Andy, We've considered exactly this. He has a large bathroom, with very good, always on extraction, and he always has good ventilation throughout. I'm now reassured that keeping it simple will be fine. Cheers Geoff
