• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Home office renewal

Good day all I’m not a tech savvy chap, relying on an ipad and an old hp desktop running windows 7 to do all i need. However it rather seems that HP has decided my desktops printer no longer needs to carry on its duties as it’s too old. That my HP wireless printer has to have its every action...

    Small hole saws

Good day all I seem to recall a thread a while back, where a solution for removing damaged screws was discussed. A solution offered was to use a small hole saw / core drill, to remove the screw, then plug hole etc. Can’t for the life of me find the thread, does anyone else remember it or the...

    Replacement for old glass

Good day all I’ve developed an interest in Oertling balances, recently picked up one at auction and it’s missing a glass panel in the cabinet. They were made a in 1890 and so the glass is not the perfect float of today. It’d look better with a replacement that is similar to the original, lots...

    Name stamp history

Following on from the current thread regarding name stamps, i’ve always liked tools that have multiple names stamped into them and the history that infers. Wooden planes and chisels seemingly the items that collect the most marks. This was one of my late fathers, a 7/8 ish gouge. P. Johnson...

    Startrite 352

Evening gents, my bandsaw is playing up, it’s switch was replaced many years ago by the look of it with a Crabtree unit. However over last 3 months i’ve had to strip it down 3 times and clean up the slide/contactor. To me it seems that the coil is overheating and distorting the contactor housing...

    Openreach and fibre

Good day all A relative who lives in rural wales is hoping to downsize, several positive viewings but each time the lack of fibre broadband has been a seemingly significant stumbling block. Old veneers

Good day all Another find in the clearout is a drawer of veneers, lord only knows how long they’ve been in there ,far from flat and bone dry and brittle, but look as though there is some really nice figuring amongst it. I’m not going to be able to use them for a few years at least, but have...

    Holland and Sons

Good day Not a woodworking subject as such, rather hoping to find someone with knowledge of antique furniture. Mum is going to be downsizing in near future. Majority of her furniture will have to go. Most is just local auction fodder but she has a couple of pieces that may warrant a bit more...
