• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Another disservice by the NHS.

A very silly question, guys, but how much water are you drinking each day? .

I've just put slightly less an amount of water as the amount of The Black Grouse whiskey that was in my glass, so in answer to you question Rog, just the right amount. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

:obscene-drinkingcheers:

haha .. nice one doug :obscene-drinkingcheers:
My attitude too

I used to love my single malts and Isle this and that .. but Wiskey / Wisky no good for gluten free ..
Apart from when I'm feeling either "invincible" .. or "what the hell" "how could it be any worse"

But Rog .. I know ! and I know it's serious.

I do catch a few extra glasses of water on passing through the kitchen every day, on top of everything else.. admittedly more when I'm feeling bad , and probably less than I should when not so bad.

Marginal perhaps. Drink more. Please.

My thoughts are that ...and you're not going to like what I am about to say...but I think you are having moments of weakness as it were and letting gluten into your system. Even the smallest amount will set you back days/weeks/even months. And the bummer is that the more you re-sensitise your body....by eliminating gluten as much as possible...the more sensitive you become. It really is a bit of a bugger.

the real thing is, Rog .. I know that is true .. but still don't want to accept it !

Gluten free tastes crap !
It's harder work when you are busy and just need a snack etc. .. yes .. I could have an apple !
Part of me hopes it's something else - but knows it's not !

You know it is. Sorry, mate. But you know the answer now.

Drink 2litres of liquids a day - that's what all the medics I deal with say.
So that's about 8 large mugs of whatever you drink.

Rod

Good old fashioned plain water is preferable as coffee, for example, is a diuretic and can affect blood pressure.

I must admit, I don't drink that much water as in water in a glass everyday.

This morning, I woke around 6:30 which is darn good for me, with no rush to want to go to the loo. But, when I did a short time ago, there was blood again. I do feel better than yesterday though.

Today is going to be a good day and I'm going to get lots of work done. 8-)

....

You must. I think that one reason why you're feeling so lousy is that you are very dehydrated.

I drink lots of tea but I know this probably doesn't count as you mentioned above, but my pee is always a good normal colour, and I do pee regular. I'll start getting into the habit.

Since I came out of hospital 6 weeks ago I haven't had a coffee or tea. I'm known off my inordinate coffee intake as well. Stayed off the wine and beer and what I have drunk has been much reduced. Strangely enough I am now hooked on fizzy water. I'm drinking litres every day, it's really good.

Tea, coffee etc are ok and count towards the total but better to be decaffeinated.
I buy some excellent Swiss Water beans which taste really nice and got used to drinking peppermint tea, however camomile ugh!!

it is debilitating .. and even the closest to you don't really know.
That's what caught my eye about your post .. it's good to know it's not just me.
Even if it's different.

I struggle to find words to customers, as I don't like to make excuses for myself.

Also Pinch .. does it affect your memory ?

I've just re-read the last few post .. and like with my work .. it's like I dream't it, rather than read it !

I've tried decaf, but I didn't like it that much. Mrs P drinks decaf. I just like good old English tea, fairly strong, a dash of semi and one sugar. I also only drink one coffee a day and that's in the morning straight after I've brushed my teeth. 8-)

I know mate, and I can totally relate and empathise with you. Yet, I'm told I look very good and healthy. Well, healthy maybe. :| Mrs P even thinks I'm 'ansome. I must admit, i was a bit James Bond'ish years ago

I've lost quoted jobs through my illness and like you, I've struggled to find the words and in many cases, I couldn't even be bothered. When this fatigue gets hold of you, any tiny chore requires so much effort, quite often too much and the chore doesn't get done. I've had times in the past where I felt like letting myself dose off whilst driving, but that would be unfair to other drivers and family. Driving down to the shop yesterday was challenging and I could have dosed off.

My memory is nothing like it was. I forget the most stupid of things these days and yes, I've become a real scatty head. A good comparison is Mrs P and me have only been together for 7 years (or almost) and she's noticed big changes in me since we've been together and according to her, the memory is one of those changes. My mood swings are apparently more extreme, I'm more forgetful, I don't clown around as much as I used to, I don't amuse myself as much either. I think I mentioned above, when I drift off in my head, I often break out in laughter because my head is going full on with comedy sketches... when we watch the TV, I used to suddenly break out in laughter, because I may have just seen a scene on the TV and within a split-second, I'm seeing a slightly different version in my head, with a big twist of humour in it. So, I naturally laugh, but Mrs P hasn't a clue what I'm laughing at. This used to really annoy her, but if I tried to explain, we then missed some of the programme. I've managed to remember some of it and then share with her, but I forget a lot of it. Well, although this used to annoy her, I think she also found it quietly amusing as well, and she mentioned only the other week that I don't break out in laughter much these days like I used to. I still have these moment a lot, just nowhere near as much as I once did. Cor, I tell you, if I lost my imagination, I would end my life. It's been my imagination which has kept me sane all these years.

haha .. yes I totally get all of that..

If I have the radio on in the workshop I find myself dancing around like that Travolta man ! lol
Wifey say's she'd love to set up a web cam in the workshop !

My head keeps me amused also :D

Shucks, Paul, sorry to read about your problem! (at least you can’t be told you are full of sh1t! )

I agree on the dehydration issue, at it starts to affect the kidneys and that’s when the crystals in the kidney start to grow into stones. (speaking from a 5 stone experience)

Try drinking green tea, but the proper stuff from China. Forget the Twinings and other look-a-likes.
Wife buys me Eve’s green tea and mint. Pop the bag in a mug, hot water (90c) and just leave the bag in the mug. The mint flavour comes through as you drink down. I will just top up the mug with water and same bag for a second mug.

A friend of ours has Crohn’s disease and lost 50kg in weight in a couple of weeks down to 40kg.
It was a shock to see him. His symptoms were very similar to yours.
He has been through specialists, pills, and nothing seems to help.
Recently he went for a fecal transplant (I had to go and research, his wife was the donor) and the last results were extremely positive, picking up weight, has energy and full of life again.
He is on a very strict Gluten free diet.

Paul good luck and lots of strength. There is always a silver lining on the horizon, sometimes it just takes a long time to get there.

Cheers
Phil

Same here; that's what I was advised, though I don't think it was 2l, but definitely drink lots of water. Anything with caffeine irritates the bladder so I was told to limit myself to one mug of proper builders in the morning and a decent mug of coffee each day, then onto decaf stuff. Fruit juices are OK as well as far as the bladder is concerned - Rob

The general guideline is 8 glasses of water per day at 8 fl oz per glass.

This site is quite interresting

6 Reasons to Drink Water

It's no magic bullet, but the benefits of water are many.
http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/6-re ... nk-water#1

Americans seem to carry bottled water everywhere they go these days. In fact, it has become the second most popular drink (behind soft drinks). But water lovers got a jolt recently when we heard that a new report had found that the benefits of drinking water may have been oversold. Apparently, the old suggestion to drink eight glasses a day was nothing more than a guideline, not based on scientific evidence.

But don't put your water bottle or glass down just yet. While we may not need eight glasses, there are plenty of reasons to drink water. In fact, drinking water (either plain or in the form of other fluids or foods) is essential to your health.

"Think of water as a nutrient your body needs that is present in liquids, plain water, and foods. All of these are essential daily to replace the large amounts of water lost each day," says Joan Koelemay, RD, dietitian for the Beverage Institute, an industry group.

Kaiser Permanente nephrologist Steven Guest, MD, agrees: "Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool, and these losses must be replaced daily for good health," he says.

1. Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids. Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature.

"Through the posterior pituitary gland, your brain communicates with your kidneys and tells it how much water to excrete as urine or hold onto for reserves," says Guest, who is also an adjunct professor of medicine at Stanford University.

When you're low on fluids, the brain triggers the body's thirst mechanism. And unless you are taking medications that make you thirsty, Guest says, you should listen to those cues and get yourself a drink of water, juice, milk, coffee -- anything but alcohol.

Note the last 3 words.
They must be nuts, thats the best part of the water

Alcohol is also a diuretic, so it helps the kidneys and bladder to get rid of all the dirty poisons in the system. 8-)

Today is another day .. feeling ok at the mo .. so off to the workshop and see how much I can get done :eusa-dance:

Ah that's a swine. I had a good day yesterday and today is pretty lively as well. A couple of days ago was definitely the drug withdrawal for me. Now the steroids are doing their job again, I feel dandy. If this continues and improves more, I shall be very pleased.

Cheers Phil. Indeed, it never stays in me long enough to be full

I'm going to look into the dehydration issue and although I don't feel dehydrated, I understand there are no early symptoms. Mrs P is pretty good with this stuff and she's my PA as well as my wife - or is it mumsy ;)

I certainly don't want those stones. I've heard they're very uncomfortable and peeing is painful. In the recent months with blood tests etc, my kidney and liver function is apparently A1. All my other organs are also good, although my lungs are damaged through years of smoking, but since giving up the fags a year ago, they've improved. My only dodgy organ is that big mother the bowel, but this is hopefully at long last, on the mend with the treatment I'm now receiving. I just hope the last 5 years without treatment hasn't caused more damage or allowed the problem to get to the point of no return. Time will tell I guess.

My appointment for the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy came in this morning; scheduled for 1st November - a week next Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to this one! I also have the appointment with the neurologist on 14th November, and the another colonoscopy on its way.

I've just read your other post Phil. You and Roger have written some excellent points and I'm very grateful for the time you guys have spent sharing your knowledge. I've checked out 'Heather's Tummy Fibre' and I see it's 'kosher' - I'm going to give it a try sometime in the future. This could be beneficial for Rich too - there's no gluten. Give it a go Rich, if you read this.

There's so much stuff which is good for you, then it isn't and then it is again, but logically I guess, a natural fluid like water can never be bad for you - unless it's unclean of course. Moderation can't be bad either, like alcohol for example. I drink mild beer on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. I rarely drink wine and I never drink strong beers or spirits. This has actually help lift my spirits in recent times, although it hasn't been the sole reason for drinking, I drink beer because I enjoy the taste and it relaxes me. For the amount I drink, I think it's harmless. But then, perhaps I would say that anyway. I think if there were any issues with my alcohol intake, the doctors would have advised me otherwise.

Like all these drugs in various forms, if they're abused, the consequences are unforgiving.

I'll look at the HTF

Alcohol .. I think they just brought the mens RDA to meet womens at around 14 units per week.
or 7 pints of not very strong beer

1 a day,

or 2 or 3 a day over the weekend

I have always drank more than that, since I can remember.

One thing on my list is to be T-Total :(

Yes, that's a real shame and I feel for you. :|

I've got into the habit over the recent weeks (possibly months) of writing 'Beer night tonight' on the forum every Friday night - usually in the 'Your favourite listenings' thread. I did last night and then, I thought that was unfair considering you've stopped for the last two years, so I deleted it. :|
